Going to Italy? 3 Jewelry Styles That'll Help You Look the Part

European women have a unique approach to getting dressed that we just can’t get enough of. And while we love the French for their minimalist style, lately we’ve looked south to the charming streets of Italy. While Italian style isn’t exactly new to our Pinterest boards (we’ve been stalking It-girl natives Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini), we’ve recently developed an appreciation for their tendency toward bold and vibrant dressing, after seeing the way they’re styling their late-summer looks. La dolce vita indeed…

To get an of-the-moment take, we asked blogger Sara Escudero of Collage Vintage to capture her locale-inspired looks on a recent trip to Venice. Born and raised in nearby Spain, Escudero makes an effort to visit Italy twice a year to discover new coastal towns and fashion trends. What stood out to her the most during her recent travels was the bold gold statement jewelry—the kind of pieces filling Kendra Scott’s Italy-inspired fall collection. We may have missed the boat for a European getaway this summer, but it’s never to late to incorporate Italian-girl style into our everyday wardrobes.

Read on for Escudero’s favorite Italian trends to try and the under-the-radar locations she suggests you visit on your next vacation to Italy.

Escudero names Sophia Loren as one of her favorite fashion icons, and the Italian actress was clearly her inspiration for this pinup-style dress. The bright color paired with metallic heels is also a nod to Italian fashion today, as the women here are not afraid to make bold outfit choices. We also love Escudero’s modern hairstyle, which is a nice juxtaposition to the timeless feel of historic Venice.

Her tip for making this look feel truly native to Italy? Pile on the gold rings and bangles. While she tends to “layer several necklaces and wear one big ring mixed with others that are more delicate,” an Italian vacation calls for taking it up a notch. Her favorite of the bunch is the lion-face ring for its vintage vibe.

We forever applaud Italian women for their lack of inhibition when it comes to creating bold looks. Escudero followed suit and undoubtedly received a nod of approval from the locals by wearing a gold statement choker and cuff with this daytime outfit. Bonus: This necklace can be worn with the tassel hanging down the back or in front, like she did here.

Escudero also notes that stripes were everywhere on her trip (hello, Venetian gondolier in the background—we see you). To further experiment with Italian style, she added in a bright handbag with gold hardware to compliment her jewelry. When not in Venice, she’ll wear this look exploring the coastline of Polignano a Mare or the sunflower fields of Val d’Orcia, two of her favorite under-the-radar spots in Italy.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Italian fashion errs on the side of the bold, and a two-piece set in a matching print certainly qualifies. We love that Escudero went for this eye-catching look despite describing her day-to-day style as being more “effortless chic with boho vibes.” She also swapped her more casual aviators for thicker-framed sunnies (another Italian-girl must-have) and finished off her look with an edgy ear cuff accented with bright Bordeaux jewels. Cool coordinated cuffs featuring the same gemstones don’t hurt the statement-making efforts either. We love the way she layered them with the rest of her jewelry for an interesting stacked look.
