The One Accessory I Wear That Always Gets the Most Comments
After a 10-year hiatus, during which the teeny tiny frame reigned supreme, the super-sized '70s style has started to creep back into the public's collective fashion consciousness. This is an accessory predicated on impact, and I am comfortable admitting that they are not the most 'flattering' style on me (yes, I have a small face) but, just like many items in my wardrobe, this is something I'm happy to sacrifice when an item is this fabulous. They're big, bold, wonderfully throwback, and, to be quite honest, the one accessory that garners the most compliments, especially in a Zoom context.
Like a statement shoe or OTT jewellery, '70s sunnies are ideal for adding that extra something to an outfit. A short-sleeved shirt and jeans looks 10 times chicer with big frames, and a belted dress is given added retro kudos. As a '70s fashion fan, I don't know how I've got till this point in my life without discovering the elevating powers of this throwback accessory. In summary: I don't plan on taking them off until winter hits.
While there are plenty of great options from both high street and high-end designers (mine are from Joseph FYI), I recommend checking out the vintage originals on second-hand platforms such as Etsy. They're often very affordable and you can be smug in the knowledge that no one else will have the same pair as you. To save you time, I trawled through the pre-loved options and listed some of my favourites below, alongside the odd new season offering. It's time to embrace the retro style this summer, and I can guarantee you won't regret it (even if your partner/friend says you look like a human bug—what do they know?)
