Out of Millions of BAFTA Images, You Need to See These 15 Flashback Looks
With the BAFTAs coming up this Sunday, we are excited to see who will touch down and show us how it's done in 2019. You should definitely check back for all of Who What Wear's live coverage on-site and our social channels. This legendary London award ceremony may not host the same overwhelming volume of A-listers in comparison to Oscars (being in Los Angeles kinda makes it easy to get there, right?), but it has always attracted some of the coolest names in showbiz.
Because of its ever-so-slightly less glitzy lineup over the years, you'd be forgiven for being more familiar with flashback looks from the red carpets of Hollywood. However, I'd like to take you on a trip down the BAFTA memory lane: From Halle Berry's two-tone chiffon and corsetry ensemble (remember how popular those two trends were for a time?) to slinky satin everything (bias-cut silk was the rage from about 1996 to 2003, and now is again) and Gwyneth Paltrow's long-forgotten beaded crop top and matching skirt, here are my favourite flashback moments from the BAFTAs of the past.
This look was SO of its time: From the two-tone chiffon and embroidered brocade bustier to the pashmina and strappy sandals (which we wouldn't mind stealing for summer 2019).
Basically all of us on a night out in the early-2000s, right? From the corseted dress (satin or ruched, thanks) with a shrug, high heels and a mini bag.
This was peak Tomb Raider era, when Angelina was the first and last word in Hollywood stars you'd feel most intimated by. What a babe.
I had never seen this co-ord from Gwynnie before, had you? She was a minimalist icon in the '90s, and this look is yet another example of it. She made something simple feel entirely appropriate for an evening event thanks to the delicate beading.
Jaw-droppingly good, somehow this Sienna dress has fallen into obscurity, but I want to put it forward as one of her very best red carpet moments.
Picking up their BAFTA gongs and looking all kinds of adorable, I remember the mid-2000s as a moment for "raw" edge fabrics and bohemia, which you can see influencing these gowns.

Just. So. Beautiful. I love the international ice-skater vibes Liz is bringing here.
I miss Eva Green's wild red carpet ways—can she come back this year, please?
From the artfully curled hair to the peachy curtains, this shot of award-winning Emma Thompson couldn't be more '90s if it tried.
I just don't get bored of looking at old pics of these two.
Isn't she the most gorgeous thing?
Okay, I realise adding Kelly Brook in is a bit of an anomaly as she isn't/wasn't an actress, but in 1999 she was out and about looking smokin' hot on the London event circuit, and I can remember enjoying this cerise-pink dress at the time.
A vision in lilac, Kate has always been good at keeping things elegant and understated.
Christina has always looked effortless and a little bit gothy—this heavily embroidered look is no different.
My two favourite people together, laughing their socks off and looking rather gorgeous. This shot is priceless.
Next, the noughties trends we're into again.
