Backless loafers have had a very long moment in the sun, with the trend first emerging on fashionable feet starting around 2015. Fast-forward to 2019, and while the once-omnipresent shoe trend is still around, there's one notable new style vying for attention.

Nineties-inspired kitten heels have steadily been climbing up the trend ladder. Once considered kitschy or unflattering, the comfortable shoe silhouette is all but cemented as a chic choice thanks to buzzworthy brands like By Far, Staud, and Cult Gaia. Taking it a step further, influencers have illustrated just how versatile and sleek slipping into a pair of low-heel sandals can actually be (plus, they're way less hard on your feet than the '80s-reminiscent stilettos we've seen as of late).

Ahead, see our roundup of the recent spring looks showcasing the trend and shop our picks to test-drive it this season. You, and your foot arches, won't regret it.
