Banana Milk Is The Unlikely Colour Trend That's Taking Off

Pale daffodils, silky custard and banana milkshake; smooth, milky yellow has been cropping up all around us in the form of sweeping dresses, light linen separates and outerwear. Though you might cringe at the thought of styling a yellow outfit (it is, after all, not a colour that often gets praised for its ability to flatter), the soft tone of banana-milk yellow isn't really that far of stretch from the tan or beige hues that we've been reaching for forever.

You may even recall that this palette of washed-out yellows had a previous moment in the sun earlier in the summer, when multiple high-profile guests including Pippa Middleton and Queen Rania of Jordan chose it to wear to The Coronation

Perhaps the millennial's retort to zingy, Gen Z yellow, this softer shade is notably more in line with the essence of millennial pink (which we'll always love). The colour is easy to style with similarly neutral, tonal shades including white, brown and warm orange, as well as paler denim washes. We've also witnessed fashion people commit wholeheartedly to the hue, wearing it from head to toe and managing to look very chic in the process.

Banana-milk yellow lends itself perfectly to summer styling, but we predict the shade will continue to build into autumn and winter, as we experiment with more layers and start to take note of the A/W 23 runways, where it was a documented colour trend at Givenchy and Tove, to name but two. And it pairs surprisingly well with black, so there's plenty of mileage for this creamy shade as we head into the colder months.
