This month, we sat down with Lucien Laviscount. The British actor has become a household name since starring in hit Netflix series Emily in Paris. It was recently announced that he would be the very first spokesperson for luxury fragrance brand Kilian and the face of its new scent, Old Fashioned. We sat down with Laviscount to talk about how it feels to be the face of the fragrance, his most memorable moments filming Wholesale Replica Bag season of Emily in Paris and how he keeps himself grounded whilst his career continues to skyrocket.
1. How does it feel to be the first ever spokesperson for Kilian?
"Am I the first ever one? That's epic. It honestly came about in such an organic way, and working with Kilian and the team is incredible. They are so loving and giving and work so hard. It's a match made in heaven."
2. If you had to describe the new Kilian fragrance in three words, what would they be?
"Elevated, opulent and seductive."
3. The fragrance is inspired by a classic cocktail. What's your go-to?
"I'm not mad on cocktails, but it used to be anything with dark rum and ginger."
4. Do you remember what your first ever fragrance was?
"My first ever fragrance wasn't my fragrance, it was my dad's. It was a long time ago now [so] I can't remember what it was. But do you know, I smelt it recently and it took me back to being a kid trying to steal a little bit for school."
5. Emily in Paris is a very stylish show. How do you use fashion and grooming to express yourself?
"It depends on how I want to feel that day or what I've got to do. I'm [either] hooded tracksuit or all bells and whistles. [The show] definitely opened up a few more avenues, just being able to be around all these great designers and to work with Marylin [Fitoussi, Emily in Paris' costume designer]—she definitely has the inside scoop on what's what."
6. What is your most memorable moment from filming this season of Emily in Paris?
"I think it was probably the last scene I shot. Ashley Park who plays Mindy is wearing this almost highlighter outfit, and it was just coming into springtime and all these flies were just attracted to her outfit, so she was swatting flies away most of the time. That was a moment that I don't think I will forget in a hurry."
7. Is it hard balancing being in the public eye whilst trying to maintain a sense of privacy in your own life?
"Nah, you know what, my life is pretty simple. I've got a really good group of friends and family and I keep it as simple as possible, so I don't really see it like that."
8. Did you pick up any great grooming secrets on the set of Emily in Paris?
"Well, they'd be secrets! No, I'm joking. When it comes down to it, it's just about hydration and whatever makes you feel good. I've started attributing fragrances to characters to separate them in a sensory way."
9. What are your skincare staples?
"Soap and moisturiser! I don't think you can go wrong with that. And sunglasses—sunglasses should be a staple for any beauty routine."
10. You can only take one grooming product when you travel—what is it?
"A toothbrush! Does that count?"
11. You’ve got 10 minutes to get ready—what do you do?
"That's a long time! Shower, music, moisturiser, music, little dance party, call a few friends, panic, run out the door."
12. What is your signature fragrance?
"My signature fragrance right now has to be Old Fashioned by Kilian."
13. If you were to launch your own fragrance, what would you call it?
"People close to me call me Lulu, so it might have to be that. I guess you've got Lululemon though, haven't you? Maybe 'Eludare'—I think it means 'elusive' in Latin."
14. How would you describe your style in three words?
"Three words to describe my style… I'd say practical, comfortable and interesting."
15. If you could steal another celebrity's wardrobe, whose would it be?
"Gosh, I think I'd go with Lenny Kravitz. I have to go all out on that."
16. Is there anything you do to help ground yourself when you’re working away on set?
"I FaceTime family and friends, and what's nice is that I've got friends in different countries, so if I'm working late there's always someone awake somewhere, and I'll just blow up their phone throughout the night. I think staying connected is important, especially because I spend a lot of time by myself, which I do love, but there are times when it does get a bit lonely."
17. When you’re not working, what do you do to unwind?
"I love to watch movies. Listening to music, going out to watch live music, watching people perform live, going to the theatre,—that's my kinda thing, my little escape from things. I'm the lonely cinema-goer who's going at 2 p.m. on a sunny day to go and watch movies."
18. Who are the actors you admire and look up to?
"There are so many actors I admire. But one of my favourites is Stephen Graham. He's incredible in so many different ways. I've grown up watching him. I've never had the chance to meet him, but his upbringing and how he carries himself in interviews… I've heard great stories from crew members and other actors I've worked with, and it would be a dream to work with him one day."
19. Acting is an industry filled with rejection—do you have any advice on handling it?
"I kind of thrive on it. It's an industry built on rejection, so once you lean into it and appreciate it and take every knock… well, it's not really a knock, it's a learning curve. It's an industry where you have to be resilient and know that your happiness shouldn't be judged on someone's opinion that day. I think understanding how to stay in my lane and do my thing and just work on me instead of looking to other people and how their trajectory is going and comparing myself. I think [comparing] is a recipe for trouble. Staying in your lane, staying true to yourself and working hard. That's it."
20. Are there any specific genres or types of characters you’d like to explore that you haven’t had a chance to yet?
"I'd love to play someone from history. Arthur Ashe would be phenomenal and Harry Belafonte would be incredible. I think just to be able to step into someone else's shoes who overcame so much in their life and to really breathe and live in their shoes would be a great challenge and so freeing."
21. What's the best piece of career advice that you've ever received?
"When one door closes, another door opens. It's tough at the time to take what seems like rejection, [but] just know that if you stay the course, it's meant for a reason. And honestly, find something else that makes you happy. I guess that's the other thing as well—there is no end goal to this. You've really got to enjoy the journey as much as possible. The end goal, that finish line—it doesn't exist. Even if you do get to that imaginary finish line, there's no happiness there. It's [about] enjoying the process and being present."
