What Celebrity Airport Outfits Looked Like in the '90s

I recently stumbled across a photo of Cindy Crawford leaving LAX in 1991, and what struck me was how incredible her airport outfit was. And just how relevant it still is in 2018. In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m wearing a nearly identical outfit—akin to this look I posted to Instagram if you swapped out the puffer for a leather jacket. The Re/Done jeans I’m wearing are even designed by Crawford herself to mimic her favorite pair from the ’90s. Replicating her outfit was completely unintentional, and to be honest, it’s my unofficial workday uniform, but it speaks to the timelessness of her style from 27 years ago.

But this brings me to the overall genius of celebrity airport outfits from the ’90s. All the looks distill the best trends from the decade and only prove why the case for their return is so strong. From Meg Ryan in oval sunglasses and Gwyneth Paltrow in a slip skirt to Naomi Campbell in pedal pushers and Kate Moss carrying a hobo bag, there are plenty of cool pieces that feel so right to bring back into rotation. For the airport, sure, but I’ll also be wearing them on the regular. Ahead, see the best ’90s celebrity airport style moments and shop pieces inspired by their looks.

Recently, I’ve been noticing fashion stars pairing their slip skirts with sneakers, and it looks like they can credit ’90s Gwyneth Paltrow for the style inspiration.

Kate Moss can do no wrong in my book. This particular outfit is making a strong case for bringing back the hobo bag.

Okay, J.Lo—we get it. Dressing in monochrome is always chic and especially at the airport.

Naomi Campbell is the master of chic glam and proves that it can be done in a pair of pedal pushers.

Nothing beats a white T-shirt and jeans with a pair of sneakers. Julia Roberts, we’re copying this look soon.
