The High-Street Store Fashion Editors Always Turn to for Knitwear
We love a good statement buy as much as the next person, but in our experience, you simply cannot underestimate the power of a good staple. We might fall head over heels for a spangly shoe or a pair of showstopping trousers, but ultimately it's those failsafe buys we return to time and time again—pieces act as the glue in our wardrobes and are ready to go at a moment's notice. Good knitwear can be a particularly tricky category to tackle when it comes to autumn, as a great deal of women's jumpers seem to come with unnecessary adornment, flimsy fabrics and overstretched necklines. (Why does men's knitwear always feels so much more expensive?)
Just when I thought the high street was a lost cause on the knitwear front, I discovered Arket. Only launched last year, the brand has already become the fashion editor's go-to for stylish Scandi-inspired staples. The retailer's jumper offering is exceptional: Think flattering, expensive-looking fits, heavy-weight fabrics and chic colourways. Last year I bought a simple red mohair-blend jumper I wore constantly—it's my warmest by a long way. This season's offering is just as good, and I have my eye on Arket's intarsia roll-neck jumper and knitted merino jacket. Want to see more? Scroll down to shop the full knitwear edit. You're about to make your wardrobe incredibly happy.
Style Notes: Anne-Miek Kessels is the epitome of chic weekend casual in this Arket knitted cardigan.
Style Notes: A camel-coloured cashmere jumper will serve you season after season. Style with a black tailored coat and colour pop bag a la Linda Tol.
Style Notes: Proof that wooly cardigans can look elegant. We love how Amalie Carlé Fischer has tucked her Arket moss-coloured cardi into a pair of high-waisted white jeans.
Style Notes: Who What Wear's Isabel Mundigo-Moore opts for the double knit look with Arket's wool trousers and polo neck jumper.
Style Notes: Tracey Lea Sayer makes an entrance in an orange Arket roll neck, which she layers underneath a mustard-coloured boiler suit. A key layering trick for autumn.
Style Notes: Sometimes all you need is a simple black crew neck jumper as shown by minimalist style queen Alexis Foreman.
