Since Blake Lively considers Christian Louboutin himself one of her closest pals (must be nice!), it's no surprise that she gets to dip into the brand's archives from time to time. That's exactly what she did last night in New York for a Mary Poppins Returns screening and reception. Lively paired a Monse dress with Christian Louboutin Calypso heels from the F/W 09 collection, which were part of a collaboration between 3.1 Phillip Lim and Jonathan Saunders. Around that time, Victoria Beckham was spotted wearing the shoes with skinny jeans, and Christina Aguilera wore them on New Year's Eve in 2009.
So what makes the velvet color-block heels so controversial? For starters, their so high that they'd make a podiatrist gasp. Additionally, the heels cost a very pretty penny, especially for a decade ago. Beckham's version, which was encrusted in Swarovski crystals, retailed for a cool $3600. (Lively's version was likely closer to $1500.) The Calypso heels are long gone from retailers' inventory, but there are plenty of other jaw-dropping Christian Louboutin heels currently on the market.
