If there’s anything anyone knows about me, it’s that my style always veers toward classic and timeless. Hand me an all-black or all-beige outfit, and I’m a happy camper. This fall, it’s like the powers that be heard my aching for knits and trenchcoats because the classics category is where the most-stylish pieces are this season.

As a fashion editor, I'm lucky enough to basically shop for a living. This means I’m also proficient in knowing exactly where to find what I'm looking for, so trust me when I tell you the best classics that hang in my wardrobe are from Banana Republic. When I started gearing up my closet for fall, the retailer was the first place I turned to restock my wardrobe with the classics I love. If like me, you’re also a classic girl at heart or you’re just looking to add new pieces to your growing wardrobe, I found the cream of the crop and I want to share them with you. See them all here.

I’ve done a ton of research in my years as a fashion editor, and the one piece that surpasses seasonal trends time and time again is a neutral jacket. Whether you opt for a classic trench coat or you pick a cropped piece, this timeless staple always makes an impact. This fall, look for fresh details like a modern lapel with clean straight lines or touches of utilitarian finishes like a larger belt, and I promise you’ll feel like a French girl walking through the Marais every time you put it on. (Even if you’re in sunny L.A., like me.)

This season, we’re also going to see a ton of knit pieces, whether it’s cardigans or ribbed-knit dresses. Before I hop on any seasonal trends though, I like to stock up on sweaters for the season in colors I know I’ll be able to layer with. I’m super into adding in a chocolate brown to my wardrobe this season, and what better way to do that than with a cardigan I can pop over a button-down with a large collar? Whether you’re going to wear yours solo or, like me, you plan on layering with other pieces in your wardrobe, a knit piece of any kind is a must for fall.

Coming off the heels of summer when house dresses became the hottest item of the season, it should be no surprise that the momentum is continuing into fall. The midi dress, especially in a dark floral, is the perfect classic piece everyone should have in their wardrobe. One in particular I’m planning on adding to my wardrobe is a comfortable knit version in a rust color for those long days of virtual meetings and a silky black piece I can wear for date night al fresco at home.

Could I actually call this a roundup of the must-have classic items and not include T-shirts? Of course not, which is why I've chosen ones with crew-neck and v-neck openings that you can use to layer with sweaters or your favorite chunky gold jewelry. I always opt for a neutral color palette, but adding in a pop of color like pink or pistachio to your T-shirt repertoire is a great way to diversify your wardrobe.

It’s safe to say we’ve all had our fair share of trials with pants this year. When we all began to shelter at home in March, it was all about comfy sweatpants. We then moved on to the comfy knit short for summer—some of us opted for a biker version or a high-waisted knit pair—but we all agreed hard pants (aka jeans or anything without stretch) were a big no across the board. For fall, I’m here to tell you that comfort is still key, but it’s time we polish it up a bit. I’ve long been a fan of classic tailored pants, whether it’s a sweatpant with cargo detailing or a stretchy and comfortable pair of flared trousers.

It all began in 2014 when she landed an internship at the company and never looked back. While she does love writing her fair share of fashion stories, her heart really belongs in the brainstorm room, where she has fun strategizing different ways to create content with our fashion partners so that you engage with the brands you know and love. Her style tends to be more classic (she loves a good black-and-white look with gold accessories), and white pumps are kind of her thing.
