Find Out How Much Your Closet Is Really Worth
We've already devised a foolproof way to decide if you should keep or toss some of the items in your closet—but what happens to those items you toss is a whole different story. Most women have tons of unlocked value in their closets—items that are worth a lot of money, but spend most of their time hanging unused and unworn.
Online consignment shop The RealReal has just released an app that hopes to change that—RealBook uses data collected from half a million deisgner consignment sales of more than 500 brands to help you calculate the resale value of your unwanted clothing and accessories.
How It Works: If you have a vintage Chanel 2.55 bag, for example, that you're thinking about consigning, you can go into the RealBook app to look up similar Chanel bags that have been consigned via The Real Real. The app will give you a plethora of sample products similar to yours, so you can inform yourself on an accurate range of prices you can expect that Chanel 2.55 bag to fetch.
You can use the app purely as a resource, or if you decide to consign with The Real Real, you can do so and get up to 70% commission from the total selling price. If you're more interested in shopping than selling, you can also do that inside the app—The Real Real regularly hosts sales of brands like Céline, Proenza Schouler, Stella McCartney, and many more.
