The Cowgirl Cut Is the Low-Maintenance Hair Trend Everyone's Booking in For
With the turn of a new season comes an influx of new hair trends to get excited about. With the back-to-school mood in the air, autumn is the ideal time to call the salon and experiment with a new haircut or hairstyle trend. And as the designers across London, Paris, Milan and New York set the agenda for the spring/summer 2025 over the past month, there was one haircut that I saw everywhere. Enter the cowgirl haircut.
What Is the Cowgirl Haircut Trend?
After spotting London salon Hershesons coining the cowgirl cut, I've been seeing it all over my feed since. You might have heard of the cowgirl copper hair colour trend, but what is the haircut exactly? The cowgirl cut features a face-framing fringe with plenty of choppy layers that provide both body and movement, but, it's also a low-maintenance cut if you don't have tonnes of time to styling your hair.
"The cowgirl cut is easy, no fuss, a little bit rough and imperfect, but beautiful," says hairstylist Gemma at Hershesons, Belgravia. "For inspiration we looked at references like Alexa Chung and Suki Waterhouse," she adds, who are notorious for their effortless, choppy-fringe haircuts. After cutting the length off, she first cut a curtain fringe in, before cutting in layers at the front, gradually keeping them longer towards the back of the hair. "I then cut the length, keeping the edges super soft, and layering to add natural movement," she adds.
To style, she recommends scrunching Hersheson's Zhoosh hair foam into the lengths before diffusing to add extra volume, texture and hold to this low-maintenance hairstyle.
