The majority of our Deep Reviews will feature our editors' honest, ultra-hot takes on entire product categories or multiple products from a particular beauty brand, but every so often, we'll sprinkle in a special single-product format called Honestly, I Love It. As the name suggests, these reviews will hone in on one standout beauty formula our editors quite literally can't shut up about. This time around, I'm highlighting the Make Up For Ever HD Skin Matte Velvet Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder Foundation ($43).
I’m what you might call a makeup enthusiast. Ever since I was younger, I have had a love affair with getting ready. In my earlier years I would run to sephora or the beauty department ofReplica Store and always want to leave with something new that I haven’t tried yet. I would get so excited to test new products and see how they worked, see what I loved or what I hated, always hoping to find a new product to add to my holy grail list. As I got older and started figuring out which products really worked for me and let's be honest as my makeup skills improved and I started my list of cant-live-without products that are always in my makeup bag. Number one on that list being the Makeup Forever HD Skin Matte Velvet Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder Foundation.
The look I’m always going for with my makeup is effortlessly-stunning (I know what you’re thinking, aren’t we all) and this product is absolutely key to getting that airbrushed, blurred, edited look but in real life. When I first put this powder on I audibly gasped, called my sisters and texted my group chat to spread the word that I had just found the dreamiest blurring powder on the planet. I knew I had found a product that I would be purchasing for the rest of my life. This product is no joke, and is one of the most popular products from makeup artists loved brand Makeup Forever. If you haven’t tried this powder yet, you can thank me later because trust me - you’re going to be obsessed.
So what is blurring powder? Well, this one lives up to the name. It’s a pressed-powder compact that’s lightweight yet buildable. It has a trio-blur complex that lasts for 24 hours, so it blurs and conceals any imperfections. The texture of the product is a silky, satiny feel that lays beautifully on the skin. The best part about this product is that it doesn’t make your skin look or feel cakey like some other powder foundations can. It is, however, a powder foundation, so you will need to find a shade that’s pretty close to your skin tone. Plus, it’s waterproof and sweatproof, as every great powder should be. It literally acts as the blurring tool would on a photo-editing app—it’s like magic. I couldn’t believe how matte and airbrushed I looked after the first time I wore it.
How to apply:
You can apply this product a few different ways, but I prefer to apply the product with a face brush after using my liquid foundation. This acts like a setting powder for the liquid foundation. It sets, but it’s also blurring and smoothing at the same time. I place my brush into the compact to get some of the product onto the brush, and from there, I apply the product all over my face. I use this as a base to set before I add bronzer, blush, and highlight.
Pro tips:
If you have oily skin like I do, I highly recommend adding some setting powder in the mix when you use this foundation. You just dab your brush into your setting powder while you’re applying the HD Skin Blurring Powder to make everything just a bit more matte.
