7 Dress Trends That Will Dominate in 2020
In 2018 and 2019 there was no way you could escape the prairie dress. If there was one silhouette that defined fashion last year, the prairie dress with its high collar and long sleeves would be it. If that wasn’t your style, then have we got good news: Dress trends for 2020 are decidedly sassier. In general they are low cut, form-fitting or come in luxurious fabrics.
There are a few trends that are returning again for this coming spring, including the oversized white cotton dress and the slip, which consistently reappears every season. There are a few designers leading the pack when it comes to dress styles—Cecilie Bahnsen, Faithfull the Brand and Bottega Veneta are three that immediately come to mind. But if the luxury price tag is too much, there are some incredible pieces on the high street too.
While a lot of the trends will look brilliant with sandals and a summer bag, you can wear all of these dresses now with a roll-neck and a pair of ankle boots. Ready to see our guide to the seven dress trends that will dominate the coming year? Keep scrolling.
Leather
Style Notes: The leather dress is arguably the easiest trend to wear right now. Pair with ankle boots now, and come spring, wear with sandals on warmer days.

White Cotton
Style Notes: Big Dress Energy is here to stay for 2020 in the form of the white cotton dress. Pair bulky Mary Janes with yours like Brittany Bathgate, but for now, opt for DMs.

Colourful Polka Dots
Style Notes: While white and black polka-dot dresses are a classic, we’re excited to see colourful iterations of this wardrobe staple in 2020.

The LBD
Style Notes: Probably the opposite of the prairie dress has to be the LBD. While arguably it never goes out of style, this ultimate frock is super chic and totally sassy. Yes please.
Bottega Veneta S/S 20
Shop the Trend:
'90s Slip
Style Notes: Slip dresses returned to our wardrobes seasons and seasons ago, so it seems odd to say it’s a trend when it never disappears. That said, 2020’s version is best worn in a block colour and with the simplest of straps to embrace the ’90s minimalism trend.

Neon
Style Notes: There was a lot of neon on the runway for the S/S 20 season. Whether it’s pink, orange, green or yellow, expect to covet fluorescent dresses from now until September.
