Emma Roberts Wore the Shoe Style You're "Not Supposed" to Wear With Shorts

Unfortunately, shorts don't look good with everything, and neither do ankle boots. It's also a common belief that they don't look good with each other, but Emma Roberts just made us question everything we thought about ankle boots with shorts. The actress was out in West Hollywood this week wearing another stylish look (it's a regular thing for her) consisting of both shorts and ankle boots. So what made it work? Let's break it down…

When you're wearing short denim cutoffs like Roberts did, the key is balance, and she achieved that with a boxy, cropped cardigan (from the highly coveted Re/Done x Attico collaboration). Now, chunky sweaters can be a tough sell in the summer. We get it, but you can achieve a similar look with a more lightweight sweater or even just a boxy, cropped T-shirt. Now on to the boots, Roberts chose a By Far pair in a subtle nude color, which is key because they just sort of blend in as opposed to sticking out like a sore thumb as, say, a black pair would. The boots also fit close to the ankle, which adds to the seamless look. Last but not least, they looked like they belonged in the same outfit as the cardigan. (Might we suggest you wear this exact outfit with jeans come fall?)
