Fall is coming in hot and so are the new fall denim trends that will have a hold on the season to come. While jeans are 100% the mainstays in our closets, they're certainly not immune to the ebb and flow of the trend cycle. Personally, I don't buy new jeans every single season—my shopping cadence tends to be lean more yearly—but I always like to keep up-to-date on what the key silhouettes of the season are so I can either pull something out of my closet that aligns with them or perhaps dabble in a new style if I'm so inspired.

This season, there's six new trends that we think you should be aware of. We saw these coming down the runway in the fall '22 collections but seeing them on Instagram and in the new arrivals sections has only solidified their importance. The big themes to know? Jeans are getting longer and baggier, waistlines are dipping lower, and the proclivity towards the early aughts is only growing stronger. With that, continue on to discover the details of each silhouette, where it appeared in the fall collections, how fashion people have already adopted it in their own outfits, and even our favorite shopping picks.

1. Puddle Jeans

We've already pointed out how celebrities are wearing the puddle pants trend—essentially extra-long pants that pool around the ankles—but now it's time for our jeans to get the lengthening treatment, too. Full-length jeans are officially replacing cropped pairs so take this as your sign to skip that trip to the tailor.

Khaite made an excellent case for puddly jeans as everyday jeans. Just pair them with a structured blazer and great basics.

Opt for a wide-leg pair or even go up a size to achieve the perfect puddle hem.

2. Denim Miniskirts

All things Y2K are only ramping up in popularity as the year progresses and this fall, fashion is going even deeper into the early 2000s archives to pull out the next big denim trend. Yep, denim miniskirts are on the menu this season and with all the miniature hemlines that have been trending, it's only natural that the next phase features denim iterations.

The Gen Z set will wear an iteration of this look for their nights out this fall: an interesting top, denim miniskirt, and knee-high boots.

3. Low and Loose Fits

If low-rise jeans have scared you so far, fret not, friends. This fall, low-rise jeans are decidedly easier to wear with roomier and relaxed fits that offset their midriff-baring waistlines.

Tibi managed to make low-rise jeans looks downright approachable with their loose-fitting version.

Balance out the jeans' roomy shape by wearing them with a tight-fitting tank.

4. Deep Indigo Washes

Despite lighter-wash jeans being a fashion-person fixture, dark denim is set to have a moment this fall. We noticed an uptick in deeper shades of indigo and darker silhouettes on the runways, like the near-black jeans at Ulla Johnson.

Ultra-dark denim is set to shine this season and according to the runways, it couldn't be more polished.

Dark denim is begging to be styled with wardrobe classics like ballet flats.

5. Cool Cargos

Cargo everything has been trending hard all year long, and now that includes our denim. Utility-inspired jeans are set to have a moment with pockets adorning baggy fit jeans like they did at Amiri.

Love them or hate them, you can't deny how cool they look.

Fashion people are already wearing the jeans with their sultriest heels for a cool contrast.

6. Unfinished Hems

The last several years have prioritized denim that's ultra-tailored and polished, but now we're seeing the pendulum swing in the opposite direction with unfinished raw hem jeans start to bubble up again. Pro tip: they look especially cool with black ankle boots.

Celine tends to set the tone for cool basics, so we fully expect this denim detail to dominate.
