6 Random Trends That Are 100% a Thing Right Now
Welcome to peak fall. We've officially reached that point in the season where we're wearing our sweaters and boots on repeat and, if you're anything like us, maybe you're even thinking ahead to winter. But before the season really changes we're here to fill you in on the more specific but still noteworthy fall Instagram fashion trends happening all over our feeds right now. We had an idea that these items would become popular, but now we have the confirmation that they're 100% a thing.
Seeing as fall 2020 is all about casual but cool looks and comfy staples, these trend pieces are on the easy-to-wear end of the fashion spectrum. Think sweaters to throw on with jeans, fun flats, and relaxed silhouettes. Each of the six trends we're calling out below kind of popped up out of nowhere but are now impossible to ignore, so read through our report and shop our favorite picks. You know, before all your friends do.
1. Zip-Up Knits
Wearing: Jacquemus Wool Layered Crop Sweater ($735); Nanushka Vinni Jeans ($400); BY FAR Rachel Shoulder Bag ($284)
Is it just me or do the sweaters this season just keep getting better? Plenty of micro-trend have popped up in the knitwear category and I'm excited to introduce the latest: quarter-zips. I'll be honest—this one surprised me a little but thanks to designers like Jacqumeus who are co-opting the preppy knit, they've never been cooler. It doesn't hurt that they're so easy to wear, either. Just throw one on with jeans and your favorite boots.

2. Second-Skin Tops
Wearing: Capricorn Studios Amelia Top ($29)
Printed mesh tops that cling to you like a second skin (hence the cute name coined by my coworker Lauren) are definitely a thing right now and while they're not a totally new trend, these easy-to-wear tops are having a big moment right now. Seeing as they're way cooler than a plain tee and basically made for layering, what's not to love?
Shop the trend:
3. Clogs (Yes, Really)
Wearing: Brother Vellies Grey Shoes in Cow ($395)
Welcome to 2020, the year of the clog. (Now there's a sentence I thought I'd never say.) No matter how you feel about the flats, we can no longer deny that they're officially back in style. While you can't go wrong with classic Birkenstocks, I'd like to also bring your attention to more fashion-y clogs like this cow-print pair from Brother Vellies.
Shop the trend:
4. Borrowed-From-Grandpa Sweaters
Wearing: Saint and Sofia Cable Knit Sweater ($80)
Another day, another "grandpa" trend we love. Cable-knit sweaters (and sweater-vests, for that matter) are bubbling up everywhere we look, and the old-school texture happens to pair well with trendy basics like button-down shirts and wide-leg trousers.
Shop the trend:
5. Leather Trousers
Wearing: Simonett Kika Pants ($159)
Leather pants are a wintertime staple and this season they're getting a fresh update with a relaxed, wide-leg fit that feels so right for the times we're in. I personally plan on styling them with Western-inspired boots and a shacket.
Shop the trend:
6. Those '70s Shades
Wearing: Lexxola Damien Sunglasses ($234)
The '70s called—they said to keep the sunglasses. Winter might not be the season you expect to see a new sunglass trend, but sure enough, these tinted shades in colors like warm amber and orange are taking over.
