These Are the Sneaker Trends Fashion People Will Wear This Fall

As a fashion editor, I have to admit that there's nothing I love more than shopping for shoes. While other editors on the team can't wait to dive into trending kitten-heel styles or pick up a pair of slingbacks, I've always been a sneakerhead in my heart, as they're cool, comfortable, and wildly on-trend thanks to a slew of high-profile collaborations and celebrity campaigns in 2024.
So, when one of my favorite sneaker resellers, StockX, offered insight into what sneaker trends, styles, and brands were going to dominate the rest of the year, I was on board. The findings were honestly surprising. StockX's yearly data report, Big Facts: Brands Making Moves, made it clear: unconventional, retro styles are on the up and up. From "dad" Asics to Loewe running shoes, these three sneaker trends are sure to set the internet ablaze in 2024 and beyond.
Asics Are the Silhouette of the Year
Thanks to the popularity of Gel Kayano sneakers on your For You Page, StockX revealed that Asics's popularity in 2023 compared to 2024 has increased by over 600%. Personally, every time I step outside, I'm likely to spot a pair of Gel Kayanos—the sporty, early 2000s inspired tech shoe that resembles something my dad wears while on vacation to Disney World rather than something considered to be "high fashion." Fortunately for us, though, Asics has leaned into the "dad" core aesthetic, releasing several styles, including the Gel-NYC and GT-2160.

Sambas Are Still Going Strong
While Adidas Sambas might not be as fast-growing as their clunky, dad-sole counterparts, the brand remains in StockX's top roster of sneaker labels for the first half of 2024 and beyond. Based on sales data, Adidas nearly doubled its sales on the platform this year alone—in my opinion, largely in part by the brand's hyped collaborations with high-street designers like Wales Bonner or a surge in popularity for sporty, colorful trainers this summer. Highlights include the Adidas Gazelles and Spezials, as well as the newly released SL72 shoes.

The Rise of Running Shoes
To no one's surprise, running shoes have taken over. Whether it's clunky gel shoes being everywhere or a focus on high-powered, tech-forward shoes from luxury houses (I'm looking at you, Loewe!), running shoes have emerged as one of sneaker culture's unlikely heroes in 2024. On has increased in popularity year-over-year by 63%, making it the third fastest-growing brand on StockX. Don't be surprised if you see sleeker, performance-enhancing silhouettes including Hokas, New Balances, and Salomons dominating your social media feeds this fall.
