4 Trends That Are Just Not Selling Anymore

As a group, you are very comfortable online shopping, care about trends, but don’t let them dictate your shopping decisions, and are a stickler for value, whether at the luxury or affordable price point. Since we’re just as dedicated to the art of shopping as you are, we thought we’d take a moment to inspect the trends that are and aren’t selling well.

Actual purchases are really the ultimate test of approval, more than an Instagram like and more than adding something to your online cart that then just sits there. Accordingly, we tapped our own in-house commerce strategist to see which trends readers are purchasing that we recommend on our site, which are just skating by, and which are falling flat in the sales department. What's Selling Really Well

We think the widespread success of this trend has to do with the fact that the barrier to entry is quite low given that most pairs are affordable. 

Another trend we can thank Balenciaga for. The fact that plaid blazers are so easy to wear just fueled the wide adoption.

Skinnies got a run for their money with many fashion girls adopting a wide-leg silhouette into their wardrobe.

Sorry, but there's nothing chicer than a square neckline. Almost every fashion girl agreed. 

Despite Mindy Kaling's feelings, the tiny sunglasses trend was brought home by many a fashion girl. 

Transparency took on a new meaning when all of a sudden our bag's contents took center stage with PVC purses. The trend took off in the shoe department too, becoming a much-loved iteration of the naked shoe. 

It all started with the skirt. You know the one (pictured above and below). From there, the leopard trend spilled to shoes and even our underwear drawers.

What's Selling Moderately Well

It takes a lot for ladies to give up their beloved handbags, and for some, the hands-free lifestyle of a belt bag was worth it. 

The below polka-dot dress was a major seller. We can see why: It looks banging on and is at an easy price point.

For such a controversial trend, we're somewhat surprised that dad sneakers had moderate adoption. Classic styles like Nike Cortez and Converse Chuck Taylors still reigned supreme for sales though. 

What's Not Selling Well

This trend simply didn't take on a mass scale. It takes a certain fashion bravery to test the trend. 

The fashion crowd has moved on from seashell jewelry to coin necklaces. 

Shoppers preferred short kitten or block-heel shoes, proving that lately, comfort is king.

In the battle of over-the-top embellishments, rhinestones and crystals won over feathers and fringe.
