5 Big Fall Trends I'm Ruling Out, and 5 I'm Here For
It hurts me more than it hurts you to bring this up, but summer is nearing its end. Sure, there's still over a month left, and you may not have even departed for your warm-weather vacation yet, but it's no longer outrageous to discuss the next season ahead. Though it may be slightly sad to think about long weekends and sun-filled weekends coming to a close, autumn is kind of an amazing time of year, especially when it comes to your wardrobe.
In fact, I'm already thinking of the staples and trends I want to invest in. Some of them err on the more classic side, like suiting and leather boots, while others are a bit more adventurous, like patchwork and off-kilter shades of green. To illustrate my point (and help me narrow down what to buy for fall), I rounded up five fall trends I'm ruling out and five I'm 100% here for. Continue ahead to see if you agree, and, if so, start shopping.
Ruling Out: Neon
Though super-saturated neon hues cropped up on the fall runways, I just can't get on board with looking like a highlighter. I support you in your brightly colored endeavors, but I'll be skipping out on this one for sure.
Here For: Offbeat Green
Pistachio had a major moment on the fall runways, and I love how the pale color feels unexpected for fall. Furthermore, I'm loving all of the off-kilter shades of green that are showing up everywhere, like olive and lime.
Ruling Out: Baby Bags
If I have to carry a secondary bag because my primary one is too small to hold much else than a TicTac, I'm not doing it.
Here For: Fleece
Thanks to cult-cool labels like Sandy Liang, fleece has made a major comeback. This autumn, I'll be finding ways to mix fleece textures with elevated separates for a well-balanced look.
Ruling Out: Capes
Sure, there were plenty of capes to write home about from fashion week, but I've never managed to wear one without feeling like I'm in a costume.
Here For: Suiting
Suiting is one of those trends that never really goes away; the offerings this autumn seem to be on the more somber side with muted color palettes and serious silhouettes. The perfect uniform, if you ask me.
Ruling Out: Sharp Shoulder
Don't get me wrong, I love a voluminous shoulder or sleeve moment. But the '80s sharp shoulder look is just too difficult to pull off in real life without looking like an extra from the set of Working Girl.
Here For: Patchwork
Fall is a great time to introduce new textures and patterns to your wardrobe, and this autumn I'm here for patchwork pieces.
Ruling Out: Combat Boots
I do love a romantic dress paired with grunge boots, but I'd rather invest in footwear that has more versatility and polish.
Here For: Slouchy Boots
I used to hate slouchy boots, but after seeing them styled under midi dresses or with slacks tucked in, I was hooked.
Up Next: These are the nine biggest fall 2019 trends, period.
