I'm a Mom in Fashion and Love Jeans, But These Non-Denim Pants Also Create My Chicest Looks
Including the prettiest pair.

While I admit to loving a good pair of jeans, any postpartum mom (or most) knows the only way to get through the first few months is a variation of different pants that fit your new body and make you feel good for months to come as you settle into a new routine. After two kids, I have finally abandoned the idea of waiting to fit into my old clothes—or, in fact, my old life—with the arrival of another baby. I've found some tried-and-true styles that make feeling like myself almost easy. My tip: It's all about the waistband, whether it's thinner on top or has open sizing with a tie, something that is comfortable to wear versus feeling stuffed into your outfit.
Alas, screw the pressure of fitting into jeans when emerging back into the office. Let's embrace that there are so many new variations of bottoms to explore outside of the faithful blue that help you look good physically but feel good mentally. (Another hot tip: Order up in whatever jeans size you are and also feel good in that if that's what you're dying for!)
Silk Pants
Viva la silk pants! These J.Crew ones are perfect for postpartum with their pockets and high waist, but for a lower hip fit, the Leset ones are top-notch.
Tie Trousers
At first glance, the idea of trousers seemed very stuffy, but I've come to find that there are a ton of great options that can be dressed up or down with sweaters or even a sweatshirt for the office. This flannel fabric has been a staple all winter.
Barrel-Style Pants
A trend last year, they are a staple in my closet from now on.
Leather Pants
I don't think leather or faux-leather pants ever go out of style. Whether worn casually with a graphic T-shirt or dressed up with a blazer, they instantly make you feel cool. This color makes me excited for spring, but you can't go wrong with chocolate or black.
Fringe/Gingham Pants
We all need fun-style pants to get through the workweek or dress up on days off. While I try to stick to basics, I couldn't resist the Dôen fringe and gingham styles that just came out to mix and match with my wardrobe.
Pretty Black Pants
We all know I love the Colby Pants, but my dear friend sent me these after the birth of my second daughter, and I haven't looked back since. I get complimented on these Chan Luu trousers every time I wear them, and I'm able to dress them up with heels or throw them on with sandals and a tank out to dinner with my family. These have the perfect shine and are a tie waist for whatever stage you're at.
Extra-Wide-Leg Pants
While not for everyone, extra-wide trousers are a fun way to dress up and play with volume and proportions.
Carpenter Pants
Carpenter- or cargo-style pants, specifically ones that are easy to pull up, are a savior for rainy days en route to the office.
Kick-Flare Pants
Admittedly, I don't find that this is my favorite cut on myself, but it definitely is a staple in the closet for when you want something dressy but very comfortable.
