The Fresh Trainers Giving Sambas a Run for Their Money in the Sneaker Popularity Stakes
Sambas are everywhere this season, and whilst they're still very much a thing, I have good news for you if you're looking for another style to invest in that's just as versatile but offers something different from an iconic three-stripe pair. Right now, there's a quieter trainer that's climbing fashion ranks, convincing those who hold a soft spot for a chunkier, sportier shoe to fully embrace them this autumn.
Composed of a breathable mesh fabric and traced with a colourful or metallic motif, New Balance's 530 trainers were first introduced in the early '90s as a new running shoe. Later becoming synonymous with clunky "dad" style across the 2000s, New Balance's 530s have since enjoyed a redemption arc heralded by the "normcore" trend that came to champion sporty sneakers. Eventually adopted by the street style set and off-duty models, these classic kicks have become a firm favourite amongst fashion people, injecting a cool, casual and sporty edge into their day-to-day style.
What's the Difference Between New Balance 530 and New Balance 9060?
If you don't own both the New Balance 530s and 9060s, it can be hard to tell the difference between the two. Owning both of these styles I can say that the 530s are overall a much lighter and less structured style than the 9060. This, in my opinion, makes the 530 design a lot more versatile. Whilst I usually only wear the 9060s with my jeans or wide-leg trousers, I pull out my 530s for jeans, trousers, dresses and skirts alike.
Wearing well with everything from baggy denim to poplin skirts and skin-tight leggings, these chunky trainers offer a refreshing alternative to the slimline styles that have dominated recent seasons. Having ticked off a collaboration with Miu Miu earlier this year, New Balance 530s are picking up steam in style circles like never before, proving to be well rid of their "clueless dad" connotations.
