I Thought These '90s Accessory Trends Were Over, But Turns Out They're Making a Comeback for 2025

As a '90s baby, I know that when it comes to fashion, the decade was something of a mixed bag. Style icons like Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Jennifer Aniston gave us some truly outstanding looks, and I'm thrilled to see their combination of sleek minimalism and understated sexiness has influenced a number of fashion trends over the years - and the revival of retro fashion.
Admittedly, some of the pieces that rose to the top of the fashion charts were questionable - to say the least. Anyone else shudder at the memory of plastic butterfly clips and sweaty windbreakers? That being said, when it comes to accessories, the '90s had a plethora of standouts that remain undeniably cool. And this summer, a number of them are making a major comeback.
It's the shoes in particular that have caught my eye. It's safe to say the '90s knew a thing or two about parties - strappy heels were a staple of the decade (just look at pictures of Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and more from their event dressing in that era), as were the super sleek, albeit not entirely practical, heeled mules. But, if you want to embrace the more functional footwear of the period, you could always go for the chunky "dad" sneaker, which was given the sartorial seal of approval by none other than Princess Diana.
From bags to jewellery, these are the top '90s accessories I predict will reign supreme this season.
See the '90s Accessories Trends We're Loving in 2025:
1. Baguette Bags
Style Notes: The original Fendi baguette bag was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 and instantly became an It bag of the decade—particularly once it became synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe in Sex and the City. Whilst the Italian label continues to release fresh iterations of the iconic bag, the sleek silhouette has also been adopted and reimagined by high-street and designer brands alike.
Shop Baguette Bags:
The OG, with its impeccable stitching and iconic hardware. It's an investment piece that's worth its price tag considering how often I plan to take this beauty out for a spin.
Neous has rapidly become an influencer favourite for its sleek silhouettes and signature egg-shaped hardware.
This versatile vegan style is perfect for minimalists. I love the soft neutral tones of this design, which is perfect for daytime wear, especially in the warmer months.
For a classic staple to throw on over your shoulder for all events, all year long, look no further.
I love this brown shade, as it gives such a '90s feel. Plus, brown is having a moment, so this design is a hybrid of retro and contemporary trends in one.
2. Strappy Heels
Style Notes: The strappy heel was a red carpet essential in the '90s, worn by everyone from Kate Moss to Victoria Beckham. The barely-there shoes pair with so many different looks to add an understatedly sexy edge to evening attire - it's no wonder current trendsetters like Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski are big fans too. Some call it a strappy sandal, a thong heel, kitten heel, or barely there shoe - no matter the moniker you know it as, it's here to stay.
Shop Strappy Heels:
Mango's Heeled Sandal With Buckle Detail sold out due to popular demand, and for those looking for a similar alternative will appreciate the new iteration. The thong front detail has been combined with a thin ankle strap and chunky block heel, instead of a dainty kitten heel, to keep you stable on your feet.
Saint Laurent pioneered the strappy heel in the '90s, so if you're going to invest in a pair to truly embrace the aesthetic, these are the ones to go for.
The more straps, the better. We also love this burgundy hue, which is very on trend right now.
3. Mules
Style Notes: Worn with jeans or LBDs, gowns or mini skirts, the heeled mule is a '90s icon. Whether peep-toe or sharply pointed, mules are one of the most versatile heel styles you can own. Get creative with the heel height, as this style is available in low to high heel designs.
Shop Mules:
This mule and colour combo screams '90s style. Pair with barrel leg jeans, tailored trousers, or a nineties mini dress to embrace the era from head to toe.
The open toe and mini bow nail the '90s aesthetic. Available in black, cream and red to complement all outfits, and style preferences.
This Prada satin mule would get the '90s-supermodel seal of approval. Plus, pointed toe heels have also made a comeback in recent years, so you can tick off two trends with one purchase.
Nothing screams '90s more than metallic colours, and a chunky heel. All we need is a crop top, bubble bag, and an Allsaints CD playing on repeat.
4. Chunky Trainers
Style Notes: We have paparazzi shots of the late Princess Diana to thank for immortalising the stylish chunky trainer. You could go full '90s and style them with cycling shorts and a sweatshirt, or try integrating them into your 2025 wardrobe by pairing them with tailored sets, wide-leg jeans or even a summer dress.
Shop Chunky Trainers:
I love this colourful style, which feels very retro - and it's perfect for spring/summer.
Beige trainers may be even more versatile than crisp white. Pair with wide leg jeans, a crisp white tee and an oversize camel blazer.
If you really love the chunky look, and want to nod to the nineties with a dose of metallic, these kicks are for you.
The chunky sole is reminiscent of the many styles I adorned in the 90s. There's no denying Veja's designs are ultra comfortable, let alone stylish.
If these trainers don't give you an almighty dose of nostalgia, I don't know what will. The only thing missing is the scent of candyfloss wafting from these shoes (IYKYK)!
5. Choker Neckaces
Style Notes: When it comes to jewellery, the choker was undoubtedly the must-have '90s item. Fast forward a few decades, the accessory is back - thanks in large part to Gen Z TikTokers. If you want to fully embrace the throwback look, velvet or cord styles with a single pendant are the way to go. For a more modern take on the look, consider going for a chunky chain like Tine. Or give the trend a contemporary twist by layering it with other pendants.
Shop Chokers:
This choker is a stand out accessory because of the gold accents on this design. Safe to say it's much more sophisticated than our former chokers.
Safety pin jewellery was all the craze in the 90s and noughties, but Astrid Miyu has made the style more wearable with the Bold Link Chain Necklace. Anyone for a BFF pendant to attach to this chain?
An elevated take on the "surfer dude" choker - wear with a white button-down and black jeans, or combats, for a super-chic look.
I love the close fit of this choker, and the beaded detail, which feels very 90s-pop-grunge-meets-surfer-dude.
The Vivienne Westwood pearl choker may be the cult buy, but I love the delicate touch of this seed pearl style. It stands out on its own, but is also a beautiful layering piece to style with gold chains. It will also pair beautifully with a broderie mini dress for any summer holidays.
