Fisherman Sandals Can Be Tricky to Style, But These 4 Outfits Are So Effortless
As the ugly-sandal reign continues for yet another season, fisherman styles are proving more popular than ever. And I'm going to put it out there: While they're a Marmite microtrend, I'm 95% sold. Considering the Velcro Teva pairs from previous seasons and chunky dad sandals from the likes of Prada and Chanel, I have a habit of not liking these "ugly" pairs until they've been around for a while. And fisherman sandals have been a slow burner for me, with my biggest question being, Would I wear them? How would I actually style them? The thing is, though, they surprisingly go with quite a few key summer looks.
Their caged fit can be similar to loafers in the way that they work well with tailoring, loose-fit jeans and some skirts. While they're not the typical go-with-everything summer sandals, they're more versatile than I originally thought. So to make it easier for us all, these are the four easy outfit combinations to try with fisherman sandals this season.
1. Fisherman Sandals + Slouchy Suit
Style Notes: There's no doubt about it—the ugly sandals come into their own when worn with minimalist separates. And yes, you can wear top-to-toe black for summer!

2. Fisherman Sandals + Puff Sleeve Top + Midi Skirt
Style Notes: Rachael Keegan is the queen of fisherman sandals, having been an avid fan for years now. For 2024, it's all about the billowing midi skirt and I love how the chunky sandals have been given a boho look with a matching puff sleeve top.

3. Fisherman Sandals + Denim Shirt + Wide-Leg Trousers
Style Notes: The simple pairing of a denim shirt with wide-leg trousers leaves room to have fun with accessories. Caged sandals, an oversized scrunchie and a tonal bag is all it takes to elevate this simple look.

4. Fisherman Sandals + Strap Top + Jeans
Style Notes: Swap the chunky trainers you would usually wear with baggier jeans with fisherman sandals. Trust me—it's the fail-safe way to wear the tricky style across all seasons. You might want to add a cardigan over your shoulders for chillier days.
