I Just Came Back From Paris, and Yep, These 2024 Trends Are Already in Action
There's no better way to ring in the New Year than sitting in a café in Paris and people-watching. Last week, I spent the start of 2024 in various little cafés around the French capital's most stylish districts trend-spotting among the chic Paris street style crowd.
Whether it was passing by boutiques in the Marais, the city's trendiest shopping district, or sipping on chocolat chaud viennois—Vienna-style hot chocolate—in the heart of Montmartre's painter's square, French women left and right wore these six can't-miss trends to ring in 2024. Below, scroll through and shop all of the elevated items you need to keep an eye on this year that will, no doubt, take over your Instagram feed in the weeks and months to come.
Wine-Colored Accents
Thanks to the popularity of Sabato De Sarno's Gucci debut, deep red and burgundy accents have been popping up everywhere in the streets of Paris. While it hasn't been uncommon to see a bit of wine here and there pre Gucci Ancora, it was rare to see deep-cherry accessories—until now. Opt for burgundy tights, smooth leather handbags, or hair accessories for a sophisticated take on this year's rising It color.

Light-Wash Jeans
There's a myth that light-wash jeans are strictly a spring and summer staple. In Paris, though, stylish French women are wearing their favorite bright pairs year-round, contrary to what I've always thought about denim washes come winter. Instead of opting for a deep blue or indigo wash, fish out your favorite brighter pair from your closet to make your winter 'fits feel extra French.

Sherpa-Lined Flight Jackets
While French women love their classic outerwear, there wasn't a jacket trend more prominent than sherpa-lined oversize-collar flight jackets. The edgy bomber-adajent trend took off this time last year, and according to the stylish street style crowd in Paris, it's clearly here to stay. While my favorite combination is caramel- and beige-colored tones, I spotted the black-on-black versions of this jacket everywhere in the Marais—one of Paris's trendiest districts.

Touches of Red
Anywhere you turn in Paris, there's a red knit there to await you with open arms. Whether it was stopping by French girl loved label Sézane or skirting around Galeries Lafayette, the famed luxury department store, dozens of cherry-colored knits were on display, from thick crewneck pullovers to dainty, pretty cardigans. If you want to feel like the French this year, this is the one hero item you need to pick up.

Peekaboo Fishnets
The French touch is all about subtle yet chic pieces that instantly elevate any boring piece into something more exciting. Enter tightly bound fishnet tights. Unlike the XL pattern typically worn on Halloween, French women are opting for subtle fishnet tights to wear with skirts and under jeans. On the surface, they look like the black tights that everyone is wearing in the fashion capital, but if you look closer, you'll see they're actually fishnets. I took up the trend myself when I was visiting Paris, and honestly, I don't think I'm going back to boring black tights anytime soon.

Maxi Coats
Is there anything more French than a billowy, chic maxi coat? Frankly, I don't think so. On my trip to Europe, I picked up three. Three! While my coat drawer is bursting at the seams at this point, I feel utterly cool. Opt for a minimal, double-breasted maxi coat with a belt that prioritizes fit and tailoring to keep your outfits from looking too oversize and overly slouchy.
