I Spend Nearly 365 Days out of the Year Hiking—I Couldn’t Do It Without These 5 Staples
A stylish hiker reveals the five trail staples she swears by, from futuristic parachute pants to the perfect base layers.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to hike nearly every single day of the year, let me introduce you to someone who actually does it. For her, hiking isn’t just a weekend hobby—it’s a lifestyle that started with a $50 puppy she found on the internet and turned into an everyday ritual. While most people opt for sweats or casual attire for a hike, Sabrina Bloedorn takes things to the next level and has become known on social media for her elevated take on gorpcore, hiking style.
Think of Bloedorn’s hikes as equal parts science lesson and aesthetic pursuit—because yes, she also happens to see hiking as the ultimate runway. From turning thrifted tent fabric into pants to mixing bold, futuristic sunglasses with technical outerwear, her style is proof that “gorpcore” can be both functional and incredibly fun.
In our conversation, she opened up about how her personal style has evolved, the underrated gear she’ll never skip, and the specific five staples that make her daily hikes possible. Ahead, meet the creator who makes 365 days of hiking look not only doable but also ridiculously chic.
How many days would you say you spend a year hiking?
“I won’t lie, I go on some kind of nature walk or hike pretty much every day. Back when I was living in Ontario, I was far from anything fun, so I knew I needed something to keep me busy. I asked my mom if I could get a dog, and she said as long as I paid for it, she was fine with it. I hopped on Kijiji, found puppies listed for $50, and that’s how I ended up with Nilla. I’ve had her for all 14 years of her life, and she’s honestly a big reason why I get outside so much. She’s super adventurous, loves exploring the woods, and I just love watching her, so we make it a daily thing to get out and explore together.”
What about hiking lights you up?
“Knowing that all of this was formed over years and years of natural processes just blows my mind. I went to school for environmental science, focusing on geology and GIS, so every time I’m outside I can’t help but be in awe of how long it took the Earth to shape these landscapes. It’s been slowly carving them out for millions of years, and there’s something so magical about that. I’ve always loved aesthetics wherever I go, and honestly, if you want to see the best color combinations and the most stunning beauty, you’ve got to start hiking. It’s an aestheticholic’s dreamland.”
How has your personal style while hiking evolved?
"Oh wow, that’s such a great question. Honestly, my style has changed a lot, mostly because now I’m lucky enough to work with some of my favorite designers and creatives. I have some really cool outdoor pieces that blend fashion and function perfectly. That said, my style at its core hasn’t changed too much. Back in the day, I was making almost everything myself because I’m a seamstress. I still sew some of my own pieces now. Things I picture in my head but can’t find from a designer. Sewing was such a game-changer for me. It gave me the freedom to dream big, to see wild designs on the runway, then thrift something like an old tent fly and turn it into parachute pants. My style has definitely evolved, but I’ve always just had fun with fashion. For me, it’s about finding what excites you and leaning into it. A big example is my love of sci-fi films. I’m always inspired by those futuristic looks, and I try to bring that vibe with me, even out on the trails.”
How do you balance function and style in your hiking gear?
“It’s so easy once you find the right brands, I have so many favourites but the ones I trust the most for not only function but also fashion would have to be ROA, andWander, Snow Peaks, Peak Performance, Vivobarefoot, Liquid.ism, Ka__yo, Arcteryx, Salomon and honestly so many more that I have linked in my Shopmy. The best thing to do is find a brand that has been around for a while or really test their gear with athletes and then wait for that brand to do a collaboration with a cool artist or streetwear brand. There are always such amazing pieces that come out of collaborations like this that still have the technical fabrics but with a fun, very bold design that looks crazy out in the mountains.”
Are there any underrated pieces of gear or clothing that make a huge difference?
“I’ve got to give some love to my base layers. You never actually see them since they’re always under the rest of my clothes, but they’re what really save me out on the trail. I usually wear the Peak Performance Merino Wool half zip or something from ROA, since they use merino wool too. It’s such an amazing fabric it keeps me cool and sweat-free while I’m hiking, and then the second I reach the top, I’m dry and warm. Another staple for me is bandanas. They’re not technical at all, usually just silk or a cotton blend, but they add such a cool factor to any outfit, and honestly, I just don’t feel like myself without one.”
The 5 Staples She Swears By
Durable Boots
“A good pair of lightweight but durable boots I usually wear the Salomon X-ALP MID GORE-TEX. They’re fully waterproof and just such a solid boot.”
Carry-Alls
“An Osprey backpack. I’ve tried to find another pack brand I like more, but honestly, the fit on Osprey is unmatched.”
Lightweight Outerwear
“My go-to post-hike jacket has to be the Peak Performance Helium Puffer. It’s super lightweight, and if you watch for their drops, they do a lot of color-blocking models that add such a cool vibe to any outfit.”
Parachute Pants
“My Liquix.ism pants. He’s a young Ukrainian designer I’m obsessed with right now. His pieces are perfectly tailored to my waist but still give that baggy look around the legs.”
Cool Sunglasses
“Lastly, I never head out without a cool pair of sunglasses. It’s usually either my Oakleys or District Vision shades.”
