As a fashion editor, I've spent a great deal of the past four months talking to you about boots. We've covered everything, from the best black boots to the boot trends taking over in the earliest days of 2023. But hey, I can admit it when I've overlooked something, and Hailey Bieber has just reminded me about a boot style I'd almost entirely forgotten about.

The first thing I noticed about Bieber's latest ensemble was her on-trend, black leather maxi coat. Not only is leather outerwear a big deal right now, but maxi hemlines just so happen to be one of the most noteworthy runway trends of the year, too. Top marks there, Bieber. However, upon casting my eye over the rest of her ensemble, it became immediately clear that my focus ought to be on her boots.

Patent footwear is a trend that's slowly gaining momentum. I've had my eye on a pair Saint Laurent slingbacks in a high-shine finish for months now, but prior to that, the fabrication had completely fallen off my radar. Of course, there was a buzz surrounding vinyl coats not all that long ago, but shoes? They generally hadn't been given the glossy treatment in years. However, I expect that all to change after Hailey Bieber stepped out in sleek knee-high patent boots this week. Turns out I'm not the only one who's into Saint Laurent's current aesthetic, as Bieber's coat, purse and boots all come from the French fashion house. My favourite component of her outfit, however, is her patent-boot-and-sheer-tight pairing, which feels distinctly after-dark Parisian to me.

If you're looking to switch up your boot game this season, below, I've curated an edit patent boots just like Bieber's to shop now.
