I can’t help it—I have a soft spot for sites (and shops) that have all of my favourite brands under one virtual (or IRL) roof. It just makes shopping so much easier. And this is why Harvey Nichols is one of my go-to destinations to stock up on everything each season. If I’m shopping online, I’m always quick to filter for the fresh drops from the brands I love in the sizes I need. But with so much newness, it’s always best to suss out the trends actually worth investing in. As a huge fan of a wish list, I looked back at my most recent saves and noticed that I’d highlighted some of S/S 22’s hottest trends. And I know so many fashion people that have already been wearing them.
Wearing one of your five-a-day is going to be a thing, with zesty tangerine, lemon and lime pieces from Jacquemus and Rotate leading the way in bold-colour dressing. Not a fan of brights? Ice-cream hues are also shades to try out from the likes of Nanushka, Ganni and Vince. And naturally, florals are springing up for the new season in could-be-vintage print dresses. (The iteration from Rixo is one of my favourites.) It's not all about being experimental though, as classic blue denim has been ticked off by some of my favourite designers: Totême, Loewe and Rejina Pyo.
So you can imagine my excitement when I found out about the "We Reward Our Friends With Benefits” scheme. A relaunch of Harvey Nichols’s rewards program, it gives you points per pound, so the more you shop, the more perks you get. It also includes 15% off fashion, 10% off beauty products and free drinks in-store, so I’ll be taking full advantage with a trip to the Knightsbridge store on my day off. And while I’m there, I might check out the Jo Hansford Salon for a new do, the Beyond Medispa for a relaxing post-shopping treatment or The Light Salon for some light therapy and a vitamin-D boost. Here’s hoping I still have time to shop these five key spring and summer trends.
Citrus Brights
Bold block colours are an S/S 22 highlight. The shades to go for? If they look like they’ve been picked fresh from your fruit bowl, you’re on the right track. Rejina Pyo backed lime, while Ganni went for tangerine and Moschino and Valentino opted for lemon zest on the runway. These colours are no longer just a garnish. They're the main attraction, and I suggest wearing them head-to-toe or clashing.
Cool Crochet
As part of the ’70s revival, it’s all about attention to detail in the form of patchwork and crochet knits. I’m all for knitwear leading through to the new season, and this way, it’s guaranteed to feel fresh and fun. Plus, it’s a subtle nod to the megatrend seen at Gabriela Hearst, Isabel Marant and Etro.
Elevated Denim
Denim updates come in thick and fast for spring in the form of ecru washes, minidresses and skirts. But I trust in keeping some things classic, and this is why blue denim is getting all the recognition it deserves this year. Fresh from the S/S 22 runway, this Rejina Pyo two-piece in a dark denim wash that feels slightly retro is high up on my wish list. And I feel even better about adding this to my basket knowing it’ll be rewarded with points on my account.
Retro Florals
It wouldn’t be a new season without The Devil Wears Prada’s "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking” reference. While the typical warm-weather print may not be anything new, the fact that it comes back each and every year makes it a trend worth investing in if you’re looking for longevity. This time around, it’s all about looking like they’ve been plucked from your granny’s wallpaper or found at a thrift store. Rixo, 16 Arlington and Nanushka understood the assignment.
Candy Colours
If in-your-face citrus shades aren’t your thing, I’ve also noticed that soft, pastel hues are making a comeback once again for spring. Anything that resembles the contents of an ice-cream parlour gets my vote, and I’m not alone. Bottega Veneta has dropped lemon-sorbet accessories, Vince has pistachio knits and Jil Sander proves vanilla is never a dull choice with a gold-adorned tank. Like with bold shades, I suggest wearing these tonal or mixed and matched.
