4 Easy Holiday Styling Tricks I'm Copying From Fashion Girls

I have to admit that the holiday season is my favorite time of the year. And there are two reasons for this: 1) I’m a Sagittarius who can’t quit Christmas tunes, no matter how cheesy they might be, and 2) the clothes. Give me pieces finished in velvet or crystals, and I’m instantly happy. But just as trends change and evolve for every other season, the same goes for the holidays. So what are the big holiday trends to know? While the season is just beginning, I have a few hunches…

For starters, there’s a surprising legwear trend that keeps popping up. Sheer tights are everywhere, especially when paired with open-toe heels. While I’ve always been an opaque tights devotee, fashion girls like Giorgia Tordini and Evangelie Smyrniotaki have convinced me that they're worth trying out. Other trends like “chandelier” dressing, feathers, and high-shine are popping up all over Instagram and are about to explode. Scroll for styling inspiration and to shop pieces inspired by the looks.

"CHANDELIER" DRESSING

Who What Wear Managing Editor Michelle Scanga recently reported on the emergence of chandelier dressing, which she describes as "a look that requires loads of dripping crystals." Get ready to see even more of this trend as the holidays unfold.

Crystal-trim pants with a crystal-embellished shoe? Yes and yes.

If you don't want to lean too hard into chandelier dressing, start with a pair of earrings.

HEELS + SHEER TIGHTS

While I haven't been tracking legwear trends extremely closely, the recent emergence of sheer tights surprised me. I've been more accustomed to seeing black opaque tights paired with boots. Now, though, cool fashion girls like Giorgia Tordini and Evangelie Smyrniotaki have given sheer tights their stamp of approval, wearing them with heels and an expert pedicure.

Pro tip: Wear yours with a crystal heel.

FEATHERS, FEATHERS, FEATHERS

If you're looking for one surefire way to master holiday style, simply add feathers. I have my eye on feathers done in an unexpected way—like Magda Burtym's feather-embellished blazers or Staud LBD with feather straps (which I recently ordered).

Feather straps for the win.

HIGH-SHINE

This is a simple but works every time: Add something with a shiny finish into your look. That means everything from sleek satin dresses to glossy leather coats and everything in between.

I spotted fashion girl María Bernad wearing this lavender dress from Rūh—a brand endorsed by Net-a-Porter's new talent incubator, The Vangaurd. Our editor in chief recently test-drove pieces from their program for herself.
