I Traveled to Italy for a Week and Wore These Outfits

Last month, I met with Lucy Akin for an afternoon at Zinque in West Hollywood. The owner of cooler-than-cool L.A. boutique Shop Super Street and fashion brand Ciao Lucia, she has an impeccable eye for all things fashion. But, like me, her love of fashion is equaled by her love of travel.

As we sat there sipping Mariage Frères Marco Polo tea, it brought up memories of living abroad, and we started talking about Paris and Italy and spending time overseas. We both have a romantic idea about living in Europe and spent time digging in about exactly why. For Lucy, it started in college when she studied abroad four (yes, four) times—to Cannes, Rome, Paris, and London—but it grew into a bigger passion. It turns out that the name of her label even came from her time studying in Rome when Lucia (Italian for Lucy) became her nickname.

When she began telling me about her upcoming trip to Italy this summer—and that her suitcase was going to be stuffed with pieces from Ciao Lucia—I couldn’t resist the chance to get a look at her insider travel spots and all of the outfits along the way. Ahead, Lucy Akin is sharing her travel diary and all the Italian outfits from her trip to the Rome and the Amalfi coast.

We went to Rome before heading to the Amalfi coast for a few days. Rome is one of my favorite cities because there’s so much to see and so much history! The Federica zebra dress was perfect for touring around. I paired it with an Hermès printed tote and black espadrilles.

One of my favorite restaurants in Rome is Roscioli—it has the best pasta here.

We made it to the Amalfi! Views from Casa Privata—a tiny boutique hotel in Praiano.

Just being the maximalist I sometimes am. The more prints the better when you’re on a boat all day. Wearing a hat from Shop Super Street and the Ilaria Top in the Souvenir Print.

This is my best friend at Da Adolfo in the Isabella Dress in tangerine. I developed the color from the colors of an Aperol Spritz—my favorite cocktail. Da Adolfo is amazing because you can only reach the restaurant by boat.

I wish I could eat as the Italians do all the time. Nothing beats a simply grilled fresh fish.

Another night, another amazing dinner! We went to La Pirata right near Praiano. It has a direct path to the nightclub Africana, which is a famous nightclub from the ’60s. I wore my Ludavica top and matching Carlotta skirt for the occasion.

My friend Karina in the Bianca Top in baby blue! Nothing makes me happier than to see Ciao Lucia in its natural element. All the colors of the line are inspired by all the beautiful colors of Italy.

Shopping in Positano, I had to pick up a few things for the store! My favorite ceramic store is Ceramica Assunta. And thankfully, it ships internationally!

Waiting on our boat to pick us up to go to La Tonnarella. It’s another restaurant that you can reach by boat and was a favorite place of Jackie O’s. I wore the Allegra Top in Shell for the night with a Periwinkle Carlotta Skirt.

The pasta at La Tonnarella. I love how all the dishes in Italy are painted with the restaurant’s name.
