In 2021, I'll Be Wearing These Jacket Trends on Repeat
If there's something we love in the fashion industry, it's a label. Some people are jeans people, some shoes. Some people can't do without knitwear. Others are obsessed by bags. I, however, am a collector of jackets. I'm not sure how it started, but I know that currently sat in my wardrobe I have 24 of them in all different colours and styles. Some pieces I bought years ago that I still wear, such as a classic black jacket from Jigsaw. Others are vintage finds such as a little white embroidered jacket that Jeanne Damas complimented me on and a £15(!) Aquascutum jacket that fits me perfectly.
When tasked with looking ahead to 2021 and working out the biggest jacket trends, it makes sense that this job falls to me, as clearly I take this garment very seriously. For the new season, despite the spring/summer 2021 runways being somewhat different to previous years, there are still some major trends that have jumped out. I've identified five biggies that I think you'll love (and I can't wait to wear), and while there are definitely some that are slightly controversial, I guarantee that even if you're a minimalist you'll be swayed by this newness. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know.
1. '90s Sportswear
Whether in a pullover style from Dior, which gives very gap-year-meets-Liam-Gallagher vibes, or the zip-up windbreakers at Celine, there is no escaping the influence of ’90s sports jackets on the coming season. Even Max Mara has a version, which is clearly a sign of things to come for even those who would usually stick to a more classic jacket style.

2. Cropped
Almost every collection has some form of cropped jacket for spring/summer 2021. While Isabel Marant went matador, Hermès offered up incredibly chic cropped leather sleeveless jackets. Chanel’s runway also came with a smattering of leather and tweed jackets with shortened hems. For minimalists, however, Louis Vuitton's collarless version is a clear winner.

3. Leather Bombers
I feel like we've got a big apology to make to the leather jacket, as it has been neglected for a few seasons. So it’s great to see it coming back with a vengeance for the coming season. While there's still little love for the classic moto jacket, the bomber in leather is making a reappearance. Quilted versions at Celine were paired with pretty dresses and baseball caps, and Chanel's had an elegant quality, worn with a matching skirt and a pie-crust collar blouse poking out over the top.

4. Trenches (of course)
Is it even spring without the trench? The ultimate transitional jacket hasn't exactly been reinvented, but it does come in some more interesting versions. From leather at Hermès to an oversize, floor-length teal version at Louis Vuitton and a denim-spliced one by the ultimate trench purveyor, Burberry, we just might get excited about this jacket style again in 2021.

5. Colourful Blazers
Bold colours are on the agenda for the blazer’s next-season stint. From Balmain to Blazé Milano to Custommade, the brighter the better to be quite honest.
