If Jacquemus Is Your Goal Aesthetic, Try These 7 New Trends Right Now
Today, Jacquemus presented its S/S 21 L’Amour show on a winding runway nestled in a golden wheat field on the outskirts of Paris. There, an army of models weaved through wearing the chicest version of carefree country clothing imaginable. Including both womenswear and menswear, it’s one of just two collections for the designer this year, a move to slow down from the fast-paced fashion cycle. "More than a creative choice,” Simon Porte Jacquemus explained on Instagram, "it’s a sustainable model we believe in and that works for us.”
Showing reinvented minidresses, sculptural tops, skirts with sky-high slits, and accessories destined for a cult following, the stunning collection is classic Jacquemus. But you can always count on the designer to usher in plenty of fresh trends. We spotted some that are sure to transform the way fashion people will be getting dressed—from extreme crop tops to super-high-rise pants to the skirt shape that’s about to be everywhere. Read on for the highlights and seven things we predict will majorly influence fashion in 2020.
Platform Flip-Flops
Already a trend going strong this summer, platform flip-flops are destined to get more popular now that they've been spotted on the Jacquemus runway.
Tie Tops
Wraparound tie tops were seen on repeat on the Jacquemus runway. We've noticed the '90s-inspired trend popping up in the collections of designers across the board, so you'll want to add these to your shopping list.
Maxi Skirts
Recently, we've seen the return of maxi hemlines, and it looks like they're here to stay. This time around, it's maxi skirts paired with asymmetrical collared shirts and plunging knit tops on the runway. I'm already inspired by all the cool ways to wear one.
Linen Suiting
Over the past few years, suiting has been on the rise. On the Jacquemus runway, suits have evolved into comfortable linen versions.

Sculptural Jewelry
Sculptural jewelry was a major accessory trend seen on the models who were wearing bold pieces like mismatched earrings and thick spiral bracelets.
Extreme Crop Tops
There are crop tops, and then there are the extreme crop tops spotted at Jacquemus. From jackets with exposed underboob to barely there puff-sleeve tops, the designer is making the case for these micro pieces.
Paper-Bag Trousers
If you're wearing a micro crop top, consider pairing it with super-high-rise paper-bag trousers like the ones we spotted on the Jacquemus runway—a lesson in how to expertly balance proportions.
