There’s something about celebrity engagements that captivates the interest of the public like few other events can. Even we can’t help but get giddy every time someone pops the question and one of our favorite It girls is suddenly sporting a shiny new ring—and we know we’re not the only ones.

It has recently come to our attention that beyond mere interest in these celebrity engagements is also emulation. Did you know that certain celebrities’ rings actually led to widespread trends? We didn’t either, until the team behind Brilliant Earth shared a recent study it conducted with us, showing that a few of our favorite ladies’ proposals caused interest to spike in certain metals, gemstones, and cuts, according to Google trends.

Could you be wearing one of these celeb-inspired rings right now? Find out below, where you can see the rings, read the insight from Jamie Herrmann of Brilliant Earth, and shop our picks for each category.

Kim Kardashian:

Cushion Cut

“While round brilliant-cut diamonds remain the most popular shape, we’ve seen increasing interest in non-round diamonds that can offer a unique look. Princess-shaped diamonds remain the second most sought-after diamond shape, but Kim Kardashian West’s 15 carat cushion-cut engagement ring received a lot of press attention and drove a spike in interest in cushion-cut diamonds.” — Jamie Herrmann

Lauren Conrad:

Rose Gold

“Rose gold continues to increase in popularity. Brides are drawn to the distinctive, blush-hued look that really flatters all skin tones. Lauren Conrad’s rose-gold solitaire engagement ring showed how rose gold can enhance a classic look, and raised rose gold’s profile even more. Directly after she debuted her engagement ring from her now-husband William Tell, Google saw an immediate 10% increase in search interest, and today rose gold engagement rings are nearly seven times more popular than they were in 2004, making it the most trendy metal for 2017.” — Herrmann

Kate Middleton:

Sapphire

“Sapphire engagement rings have always been sought after, and we did see a noticeable bump in popularity after Prince William proposed with Princess Diana’s sapphire halo ring. While rich blue sapphires are still the most popular choice, an increasing number of couples are opting for sapphires in other colors, such as teal, peach, and green.” — Herrmann

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here atBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing , and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
