I Had Flat Hair, but This £22 Miracle Mousse Changed Everything

If you'd have asked me to try a volumising hair mousse a couple of years ago, I would have definitely (politely) declined. You see, me and hair mousse haven't always had the smoothest of rides. But before I get into that, let me tell you a little bit about my hair.

I have quite a lot of it, so you may be wondering why I would want to try a volumising product in the first place. Although my hair might look thick, the strands themselves are actually quite fine, and my hair always tends to fall flat at the roots. So, back in my early twenties, I gave one or two hair mousses a go, and was disappointed by how much residue was left behind. Instead of adding volume, my hair felt greasy, a little bit crispy and really weighed down, meaning that the effect the product had on my roots was the opposite of what I was hoping for.

From then onwards, I decided to steer clear of volumising mousses altogether, and whenever I wanted a bouncy blow dry, I'd rely on my hairdresser to deliver the goods. However, I recently discovered that Larry King himself had brought out his own hair mousse called My Nanna's Mousse as a nod to his nanna's voluminous locks.

Not only did the name make me want to try it straight away, but the promise of a lightweight formula that wouldn't leave my hair feeling sticky definitely intrigued me. In fact, this mousse is meant to leave your hair feeling soft and bouncy with added shine.

The team atBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing UK had noticed that more and more readers were opting for this specific mousse to style their hair this summer, so with all of the evidence pointing towards this becoming a cult beauty buy, I decided to give it a go. Ahead is my honest review.

Larry King My Nanna's Mousse Review

After washing my hair, I squirted a few pumps of the mousse into my hands before applying it to my roots and ends. On first go, I was surprised by how light the formula felt, and it was easy to distribute throughout my strands.

The brand recommends using the product with a round blow dry brush, so that's exactly what I did. Of course, this step totally depends on your hair type, but the good news is that the product has been designed with all hair textures in mind, so you can use it however works best for you.

I sectionned my hair into four parts and used my blow dry brush to dry the hair and give it that bouncy look. After doing the first section, I was immediately impressed by how soft my hair felt. I will say that I think I applied a little too much mousse the first time around so I did feel some residue, therefore I would recommend using it a little more sparingly. In my opinion, one or two pumps should suffice, which is great as it means that the bottle should last you for a good few months.

After doing all the sections, I could instantly see that my hair looked fuller and thicker, and I was so happy with the results.

This is how my natural hair starts to dry after washing. As you can see it falls quite flat at my roots and around my face.

After using the mousse, I noticed my hair definitely had more volume and bounce, and kept its shape for a lot longer.

My roots were so much bouncier, and even though I applied too much product, I could still barely feel it when running my fingers through my hair.

I also found that my blow dry lasted a lot longer, and even when I threw my hair in a bun later in the day, the front sections still stayed in place.

The only small downside to this product is that I found it didn't add as much shine to the hair like it claimed to do, but apart from that I really can't fault it. In order to get this shine, I would recommend either applying a shine spray on your hair while it's still wet, or using a hair oil once it is dry.

For only £22, I could definitely see myself repurchasing this, and would recommend it to anyone with thin or flat hair who is looking to add some volume.
