The "Boring" Winter Accessory That Can Make Any Outfit Look Luxe
I don’t know when it happened, but leather gloves suddenly went from “formal event accessory” to “the thing every fashion person is casually wearing to lunch.” Blame the runways, blame the street style stars, or blame the fact that we’ve collectively reached for anything that makes an outfit feel more intentional—but gloves are having an undeniable moment. And, of course, I have finally gotten on board.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been pulling images and inspo—on the hunt for the best ways to style them and I couldn’t help but notice a standout star in the gloves department. Elsa Hosk, has been finding the best gloves on the market and styling them better than anyone else I’ve seen and I’ve been taking thorough notes. From knit styles that match her sweater of the day to the graceful addition of matching cuffs on each wrist—she’s gone all out. I’ve decided her personal style will be my blueprint when it comes to styling gloves and it should be yours too. Below, find the 5 gloves she’s inspired me to wear and style with my most dramatic evening gowns or on the contrary with sweats and a fur coat.
But First, Burgundy
A bold pop of color will always be fun in the gloves department but a purchase that will last you much longer in your closet will always be a pair of burgundy leather gloves. It’s simply luxe.
Sweater Weather
Knit gloves will always be the most practical and common style so it can be hard to feel like they make a statement but Elsa really knows how to find pairs that stand out. The Ralph Lauren pair that blends right in with her sweater won me over just before I discovered the chunky knit one she recently styled in NYC.
Not Leather But Lace
Come holiday party and New Years Eve season, the best time to add a statement accessory is right now. Hosk played around with lace gloves quite a bit this year and I took plenty of notes.
XX Long
Wearing a bold statement dress is always a good idea but styling it with extra, extra long gloves and sometimes even a gold cuff here or there really takes it to the next level. Elsa’s been all about it and it’s inspired me to try it too.
The Classic
You can’t go wrong with a classic leather glove. It not only makes the perfect gift for someone on your list but it’s also a nice purchase for yourself.
