I Live in L.A. and See These 4 Items Everywhere Right Now
Los Angeles is known for many things, but frigid weather is not one of them, so fall and winter fashion tends to look a bit different here compared with other parts of the world. Instead of floor-length coats and snow boots, you'll typically spot light jackets, single layers, and denim. We Angelenos are forced to pick and choose the winter trends we're able to partake in based on what's suitable for our famously fair weather.
Since not all winter trends translate, the L.A. fashion crowd tends to zero in on a few key items from the season's biggest trends. This year, there are four that everyone seems to agree on because I've been spotting them everywhere recently. Each of these items touches on a major winter trend but can be interpreted for more favorable temperatures. From the rich texture of the moment to the elegant shoe style commanding the fashion world, these are the four Los Angeles winter fashion trends everyone is embracing right now.
SUEDE
Suede already dominated the trend cycle this past fall, and it shows no signs of slowing down in L.A. While other cities are packing up their favorite pieces due to damp weather, we here in Los Angeles don't have that problem. Our winters are mostly dry, so the rich texture continues to be a favorite among the fashion crowd. From belts to bags to coats, suede is the texture of the moment.
LEATHER OUTERWEAR
One thing about L.A. is we love a leather jacket. Whether it's a long trench, an hourglass blazer, or an oversize silhouette, leather is our outerwear material of choice. I've already spotted leather outerwear of all colors and styles around L.A., and it's only poised to get bigger as we enter the full swing of the season.
SLINGBACKS
Slingbacks have had a major renaissance this past year thanks to viral styles like Saint Laurent's Lee Heels and Gucci's Signoria Pumps. More elevated than your average pumps, slingbacks have commanded the fashion world for months now, and L.A. is particularly infatuated. Whether paired with tights or worn on their own, slingbacks are dominating the feet of Los Angeles residents.
TIGHTS
Tights are one of those small accessories that pack a big punch, easily transforming an outfit into an outfit. As the temperatures have dropped in L.A. (especially at night), tights are being used to add interest to virtually every outfit, from classic semi-sheer black tights to delicate lace stocking. Angelenos are embracing the cold-weather accessory with open arms.
