Margot Robbie Just Resurrected My Favorite Skirt Trend From High School

If you went to high school during the 2000s (okay, very early 2000s in my case), Margot Robbie's outfit for a Hollywood Reporter event this week will probably look familiar and may even make you feel a little nostalgic.

Robbie's look for The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Gala was head-to-toe Gucci, consisting of a long-sleeve cream minidress from the resort 2023 collection and black platform sandals. Although it's obviously a dress, if you look closely, it's designed to look like a top tucked in a skirt, and it's the "skirt" that made me recall the styles I wore in high school circa 2001. In fact, I'm pretty sure I wore a very similar ruched and ruffled skirt to the Sadie Hawkins dance during my sophomore year and on many other occasions. Given the now-mainstream resurgence of all things early 2000s and Y2K, it's no surprise that this skirt trend is back, and given how adventurous Robbie has been with her wardrobe this season, it's no surprise that she wore such a fun piece on the red (well, pink in this case) carpet.
