First of all, I am very much aware that Marimekko isn't exactly a hot-off-the-press brand. In fact, according to its website, it's been around since 1951, outstripping my lifetime by a good 40 years. Not too shabby really. Unusually, it's one of those brands that hasn't ever really deviated from its original formula—aka fashion designs in vibrant, abstract prints. Long before the likes of Stine Goya or Ganni, Finnish-based Marimekko was repping the Scandi aesthetic.
Like any brand that is consistent with its design aesthetic, Marimekko has accrued a dedicated following over the years, fashion-lovers who are drawn to its graphic credentials. However, for some reason, its ripples haven't been felt in the world of Instagram, well, until now, anyway. It was the brand's bold blue daisy-print fabric which initially caught our eye, and we quickly saw it crop up on multiple influencer accounts, thus confirming its cult status. Then, after glancing on the site's new-in section, we couldn't get over how many good summer-ready pieces were waiting for us.
