I Live in Paris, and This Is What I'm Buying for Autumn

Every month, Londoner turned Parisienne Marissa Cox of Rue Rodier will bring you her pearls of Parisian fashion wisdom and style tips straight from the French capital. A photographer, writer and influencer, we turn to the oh-so-chic Marissa on a regular basis for a truly unique take on her adopted country’s signature style. Whether we’re looking to her décor decisions, handbag purchases or chic hotel choices, we can all agree that being un petit peu plus Français could never be a bad thing…
As I write this, I’m busy prepping for Paris Fashion Week. It’s also the first day of autumn, and rain is forecast tomorrow and for the rest of the week. I hate the rain and have spent my in-between-work moments googling raincoats and boots that might keep me dry as I trek from presentation to show to event. Whilst in search mode, I couldn’t help but spot a few other items I’m adding to my autumn wish list.
Every season, I go through my wardrobe and assess what can stay and what can be sold, given away or recycled to make way for a few new pieces that hopefully won’t be leaving my armoire any time soon. Over the years, I’ve been investing in more pieces that I know will stand the test of time, which is how my fellow Parisiennes tend to shop. But due to my line of work, I like to refresh items or add another investment or statement piece when the weather changes.
So here’s my shopping list that will get you through the new season and have you looking a little more Parisienne (but far from clichéd)…

A good leather jacket never goes out of style, but instead of a biker cut, I’m opting for a longer silhouette with a tie waist. It’s more elegant, will accentuate your figure (important for Parisiennes) and will look just as good over a pair of jeans as it will over a midi skirt, which, take it from Celine, is a key piece this season.
I go to a lot of events for work, so dresses that I can throw on for an evening are a must. I was recently sent a fuchsia Art Dealer dress and now would like it in every shade, as it’s so flattering. I’m particularly loving this, dare I say, joker-style split-colour silk option.
A couple of weeks ago, I co-hosted an event with Ba&sh andBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing where I talked about French fashion, key autumn pieces and styling tips. I insisted on a good blazer—perhaps a little too much—but people purchased it, so it must have done the trick. A blazer is my go-to piece for elevating any look and my sentiment is "If in doubt, throw a blazer over it!”
When it comes to fashion, most Parisiennes march to the beat of their own drum, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t follow the odd trend. If Isabel Marant’s autumn collection was anything to go by, utilitarian style will be one of the trends you should pick up on. I’m loving this oversized khaki coat from Ganni, which will certainly have longevity in my wardrobe. Khaki is a colour that goes with everything, and this is a great cut that will keep you warm and looking chic.
Tôteme creates pieces that are built to last. I love this quilted jacket, which will slot perfectly into my wardrobe and work as an update on the black blazer.
