Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen Just Offered Up Some Wise Vintage-Shopping Advice

Whenever Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen offer up any sort of fashion advice, we're all ears—and with good reason. The sibling duo is among America's most successful designers, having run two highly coveted fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James, for more than a decade. In their latest endeavor, the sisters are launching, for the first time outside the United States, a curated selection of vintage pieces that will be sold alongside their Elizabeth and James collection at Selfridges, a high-end London department store.
Speaking to British Vogue about this new launch, Ashley explained, "This concept of curation and Elizabeth and James Vintage has become an important element of our brand story. We are excited to be able to share it with our customers in London for the first time. Our curated vintage has been successful for Elizabeth and James because of how well it complements the main line and vice versa. The juxtaposition is what makes the rack interesting and unique."
Of course, the magazine had to tap the designers (and longtime vintage shoppers) for their best advice when it comes to buying vintage pieces. Perhaps surprisingly, their tips were fairly simple. Mary-Kate said, "There are no rules," while Ashley explained, "If you love it, buy it, because you may never find it again. That is the beauty of vintage." Remember these wise words the next time you find yourself torn over whether to snatch up a vintage piece.
Now, read on to shop a few of our favorite pieces from their contemporary label, Elizabeth and James.
