I Hate to Pick Favorites, But This Is the Trend I'm Trying First This Spring
Hemlines may be shrinking with the onset of the micro-miniskirt trend that is already huge for spring as clothing gets skimpier and skimpier, but it turns out something is happening with hemlines on the opposite side of the spectrum as well. Long skirts and dresses were also major on the S/S 22 runways, culminating in the maxi trend that I’m predicting will be big this season, and I want to try it out the moment spring hits.
Brands including Saint Laurent and Peter Do showcased beautiful maxi skirts in their collections, while Loewe and Chanel showcased maxi dress silhouettes. The designs range from breezy and gauzy to more tailored pieces, but the one common denominator is the floor-sweeping hemlines. The maxi trend is already gaining traction among the fashion set and I’m expecting to see more of it as we head into spring. The looks read as luxe and instantly polished, all the while directional and cool. Ahead, more on the maxi trend for spring 2022.
On the Runway
At Saint Laurent, long-column skirts were paired with waistcoats—a chic spin on the tailored vest look if you're looking to bring the piece forward into spring.
I can't stop thinking about this tonal look from Peter Do and want to replicate it for spring. The knit top is the perfect counterpoint to the tailored maxi skirt.
Chanel offered up a cool take on the maxi dress, finished with thin straps and a low-scooped neckline. If you're on the fence about which style to order, you can't go wrong with a versatile piece like this.
Loewe debuted one of the most talked-about collections of the S/S 22 season and made a strong case for the maxi dress. I already know this printed tank dress will be a cult buy.

This stunning maxi dress from Paris Georgia keeps selling out and it's easy to see why.
