An exciting new season lies ahead, and since I'm a fashion editor, fresh trends are always on the brain! I've analyzed the spring/summer 2025 runways from top to bottom and have been observing what styles the fashion It crowd is already adopting, so I have a good sense of the exact trends I'll be buying into in 2025 as well as the trends I'll be skipping (for now).

If you're looking for a little guidance on what items will make your wardrobe look very 2025, then keep scrolling as I share seven styles worth buying into this year as well as the trends that are taking a back seat in my closet. Ahead, take a peek to see what's in store for 2025, from sporty jackets to buttermilk pieces.

Buying: Sporty Jackets

Skipping: Cropped Moto Jackets

Windbreakers, anoraks, soft shells, and zip-ups are set to dominate in 2025 thanks to a whole host of designers, from Miu Miu to Gucci, showcasing jackets with a sporty sensibility on the runways. Set aside your cropped leather moto jacket for now and opt for a sporty jacket with a luxe fit and fabric. It can be styled with everything from romantic dresses to chic tailoring.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Ethereal, Sheer Fabrics

Skipping: Bold Cutouts

The transparent trend is here to stay. For spring and summer, we'll be seeing romantic, soft, sheer, and flowing chiffon and tulle take center stage via skirts, blouses, dresses, and pants in ethereal shades. Give your bold cutout pieces a well-deserved break, and instead, integrate sensual and sophisticated see-through layers into your everyday looks.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Buttermilk

Skipping: Neon

For those who love neutrals, soft buttermilk is a beautiful option to lean into for spring 2025—ranging from light cream with a very subtle hint of yellow to deeper parmesan. Save the highlighter hues for another season and embrace the buttery, rich-looking color in 2025.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Slim-Fitting Pants

Skipping: Cargo Pants

Slimmer silhouettes are stealing the spotlight in 2025. Designers brought forth chic iterations on formfitting tailoring—from slouchy straight-leg pants to cigarette styles—at Miu Miu, Loewe, Sportmax, and Tod's. The same goes for jeans. I'll be setting aside my cargo pants in favor of slim-fitting trousers for spring.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Thong Sandals

Skipping: Platforms

There are plenty of chic footwear trends to look forward to in 2025, from boho clogs to braided textures to peep-toe heels, but I had to acknowledge the most wearable of them all—chic thong sandals—based on how many pairs I spotted on the runway alone. Opt for elevated flip-flops with clean architectural lines in leather or suede and fresh details such as chunky straps and buckle adornments for a current take. Rest assured, any minimal pairs you may already own will also work.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Elegant Dresses

Skipping: Baby-Doll Dresses

Elegant silhouettes are here to stay in 2025, and we'll see the fashion set continue to embrace sophisticated dresses—taking cues from designers such as Toteme, The Row, and Prada. For now, I'll be setting aside baby-doll dresses in favor of boatneck silhouettes, '60s sensibilities, and clean sophistication.

Shop the trend:

Buying: Soft Power Pieces

Skipping: Office Siren Pieces

We're leaving the office siren behind for spring and embracing new tailoring codes for 2025. Think soft power dressing—powerful suiting reimagined in relaxed silhouettes that are sophisticated and elevated. Opt for oversize tailored suiting, as spotted on the Saint Laurent runway, and collarless, belted, and wrapped silhouettes, as seen at Tory Burch. This tailoring style oozes a womenswear-meets-menswear take on work style.
