This Trend Lit Instagram on Fire in a Matter of Days

There’s a new pants styling trick in town, and it’s taken our IG feeds by storm in a matter of days. At first glance, the pants may seem like the usual paper-bag variety, but upon closer inspection, they are actually oversized high-waisted pants that are belted tightly enough to cause a rippling paper bag like effect. The nuance may seem inane, but we’ve seen the trend catch on startlingly fast with the style set, indicating it may be a look that’s poised for major impact.

It all started with an outfit Julie Pelipas, Vogue Ukraine’s fashion director, debuted at Couture Week on July 3. I received a DM about the look from my most forward-dressing friend and considered searching for a nude bodysuit like Pelipas’s. Little did I know that it was all about the pants. A few days later, Into the Gloss’s fashion director posted her devotion, and a Man Repeller story on the look was born. From there it has popped up on the feeds of Refinery 29’s market editor, Alyssa Coscarelli, stylist Sissy Saint Marie, and fashion designer Eliana Gil Rodriguez. See the exact progression of the paper-bag pant styling trend below, and snag a belt and a pair of oversize pants for yourself while this trend is still fire.
