Phoebe Philo Is Back, and She Brought With Her My Be-All-and-End-All Wardrobe
After what's felt like a decade of waiting, taking rumors of a return as if they're fact only to be disappointed, and setting countless alarms once a genuine date of arrival was announced, I can finally say Phoebe Philo is back. And now that I've allowed myself the morning to let the contents of her just-launched namesake brand ruminate in my brain, filling it with fashion bliss and utter luxury, I can say with absolute certainty that it was more than worth the wait.
Upon typing phoebephilo.com into my Google search bar and pressing enter, I was taken into a world I've missed for years, one that perfectly walks the line between maximalism and minimalism, where the highest-quality basics like turtlenecks, poplin button-downs, and just-right trousers are paired alongside giant sunglasses, leather bombers secured with built-in scarves, shoulder-size brooches, and fringe-hemmed micro miniskirts with ease. From the actual products for sale to the lookbook imagery, the brand's dot-com is nothing short of a dream world for people who love clothes.
Whether or not any of us will actually be able to purchase anything from the former Céline creative director's debut collection is between each of us and our bank tellers—the line ranges from $450 to infinity, or rather, the unlisted price on this hand-combed viscose coat—but one thing is for sure: Philo's return to fashion will play a significant role in the way people dress from this day forward. Myself included.
