Throughout the past two decades, Nicole Richie has established herself as a prominent influential style icon and entrepreneurial trendsetter in the industry. Founder and creative director of House of Harlow, Richie has evolved the brand beyond fashion. Today, House of Harlow offers luxuries in a wide array of categories including, ready-to-wear, jewelry, shoes, handbags, eyewear, and home fragrances, truly positioning itself as an all-encompassing lifestyle brand. Impressively, the burgeoning brand has maintained a 30% year-over-year growth increase since 2016 and is among one of the top 10 best-selling brands at mega retail platform Revolve. There’s no denying that Richie has built a thriving empire, but how exactly did she do it?
Prior to the launch of House of Harlow, Richie made history as one of the first-ever reality television stars (yes, there was a time before all the beloved Bravo shows began). In the early 2000’s Richie embarked on a journey alongside best friend, Paris Hilton, in both filming and producing the infamous show, The Simple Life. During her early 20s, Richie took risks and said yes to various opportunities, even if they didn’t always work out. In fact, Richie owes a lot of her business’s success to the trying times where certain lessons would never have been discovered had she not gone through them. The constant moments of checking in with herself asking, "How do I want to shape my life? What would I want my life to look like?” allowed Richie to transition her entertainment career into her passion.
