Selena Gomez Perfectly Sums Up Why Instagram Can Be So "Difficult"
Selena Gomez is the queen of Instagram with the most followers on the platform, but in her new Harper's Bazaar cover story, Gomez acknowledges that the responsibility is not always easy to deal with. "I have a complex relationship with Instagram, to say the least," she told the magazine. "It has given me a voice amid all the noise of people trying to narrate my life for me and allows me to say, 'Hey, I’m gonna post this, and this is gonna take care of the 1,200 stories that people think are interesting but actually aren’t, and aren’t even true.' So it empowers me in that way because it’s my words and my voice and my truth."
Gomez went on to explain the downside of Instagram: "The only thing that worries me is how much value people our age place on social media," she told Harper's Bazaar. "It’s an incredible platform, but in a lot of ways it’s given young people, myself included, a false representation of what’s important. So, yeah, it’s a complex relationship. Probably one of my most difficult relationships." Sound familiar? We knew we liked her for a reason: She can perfectly sum up what everyone is feeling about social media in 2018.

Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
