There has been a time and place for basket bags, beaded bags, and net bags as essential accompaniments to my summer ensembles, but a new silhouette has recently been surfacing as my new favorite accessory du jourthe drawstring pouch bag.

Elegant, charming, and sartorially refreshing, the drawstring bag dates back to as early as the 13th century but rose to popularity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries—when women spent a great deal of time customizing and embroidering them—coordinating colors to their outfits. By the 20th century, small beaded drawstring pouches were all the rage—a hit at dance halls of the roaring 20s. Today's recent versions are a throwback to those embroidered beauties—thanks to contemporary brands like Ganni bringing them to life in cool materials and colorful patterns. The Insta set has been quick to take on the emerging trend, and now so can you with the plethora of chic options currently infiltrating the market. And while it's the perfect accessory for a night out, they look just as cool in a daytime setting paired with casual jeans and tees.
