Heard It Here First: This Denim Trend Is on Its Way Out
You probably know her as one of the funniest characters on Modern Family, but recently, Sofia Vergara has proven that in addition to acting, she can design as well. Vergara recently released an affordable line of denim available only online at Walmart. The styles include everything from jeans to dresses to jackets and come in sizes 0 20. Oh, and did we mention that everything is under $40? Okay, great. Are you intrigued yet?
Eager to learn more about this accessible (and cute) new denim line, we sat down and chatted with Vergara herself to hear about it all firsthand. From her favorite styles in the collection to the denim trend she thinks is definitely "out," this starlet tells it all. And, yes, we shopped out the best of the best from the collection for you to see.
Name your top three favorite pairs of jeans in the collection what you love about each.
"I love and wear all of our jeans, so it's really hard to pick just one. Although, I do have some new favorites from my spring collection."
"I'm loving the Distressed Sofia Skinny. This is an update on one of our bestselling styles. It's got everything you love about the Sofia Skinny with some distressed elements that make it a little more casual."
"Throughout the spring collection, you'll see a lot of flares, I'm loving the Melisa Flare in a light wash with front pockets. They have a retro look with the pocket detail while still feeling like a classic closet staple that you'll wear over and over."
"Finally, I brought back the Rosa Curvy with Fringed Hem in a few colors for spring, including white and a '70s light wash. This popular jean is made from super-soft denim, hugs in all the right places, and offers a higher waist for all-day comfort, plus it features a sassy fringed hem."
What are some of your favorite denim trends to wear, and why?
"Two big trends for spring are flares crops. While neither are really 'new,' you'll see a lot more options of both this spring. I love the leg-lengthening effect of our Melisa Flare, and in addition to our classic version, we've introduced one with a denim tie belt and a released hem that is so chic."
"We also have a few great cropped options this season. One of my favorites is the high-waisted Mayra. The higher waist accentuates your curves and the cropped length pairs perfectly with a statement strappy sandal or mule."
What is one way you love styling your jeans right now?
"I love the versatility of denim and that you can dress it up or down depending upon where you're going. As the seasons shift and we're enjoying warmer weather in L.A., I'm pairing our spring denim with flirty tops. Whether it's a tank in a playful pattern or an off-the-shoulder solid, these are an easy complement to your favorite jeans."
What denim style is on its way out, are you not feeling as much for 2020?
"Denim has a way of coming full circle, so this is always a bit hard to answer, but I'd say colored denim is not a focus for us in 2020. We're leaning into classic washes (so blues, blacks, grays, and white) plus some novelty patterns. The pops of color will come from our tops, dresses, and jackets—not denim."
