Each season, I look forward to seeing which styles, colors, and prints will rise above the rest and be deemed trends by the fashion world. Not to brag, but my fellow editors and I are usually spot on with our predictions. There is always a handful I'll immediately gravitate toward while others feel a bit less realistic for my everyday life. (I’m looking at you, thong dresses and low-rise jeans.) This spring, I’m pleased to say there are quite a few trends that fall into the wearable category, and I’m already incorporating many of them into my own wardrobe.
Top contenders include tie-dye prints (yes, again!), shades of tangerine and pale yellow, cropped cardigans, fresh sneakers, and flatbed-style sandals. I realize you may want further proof that other fashion people are backing these trends, too, and boy, do I have it for you. Sheryl Luke and Kristina Zias, both of whom I highly recommend following on social media for all things fashion inspiration, have been turning out looks wearing these exact trends for weeks now. Some of my favorites are below, all of which I’ve made shoppable with pieces from Walmart starting at just $9.
I relate a lot to Luke’s styling approach, which is "to add trend-driven pieces and mix them in with the staples already in my wardrobe.” This method also ends up feeling a lot more elevated than trying to wear too many trendy &nbpieces at once. For example, Luke chooses to hero just one print in this outfit: the tie-dye cardigan.
"I am picky when it comes to tie-dye”, she says, "but who doesn't love rainbow colors, especially in these softer pastel shades. I loved pairing this cardigan with my satin skirt to really complete the look.” Fresh white sneakers add the perfect casual spring vibe here and also balance out the white tee.
As mentioned before, tangerine, which is this lovely vibrant orange hue, and pale yellow are two of the most notable colors for spring. Luke is very much on board with both: "Tangerine is such a fun and happy color that brightens up any look, and pale yellow is a shade anyone can wear,” she tells me. While the two shades are lovely alone, Luke proves they also complement each other when worn together.
I love the way she styles her on-trend cardigan over the breezy dress for a really effortless outfit. "It's an easy throw-on-and-go look that gives off super comfortable vibes. I belted it with a skinny belt because I wanted it to accentuate my figure and highlight my waistline.” This trick is an editor go-to as well for making things feel a bit more polished.
Zias is approaching the tie-dye trend in a bolder way than Luke by really making it the focus of her outfit. "I love tie-dye in casual and easy jersey and cotton fabrics like this dress,” she says. "It's the perfect print to make casual pieces a lot more fun"
To finish off the look, Zias adds in a color-coordinated bag and flatbed slide sandals. Of this major spring shoe trend, she says, "I’m thankful slide sandals are still super trendy because they are so comfortable and sometimes laces feel like too much work. Kidding! Kind of…”
Now back to our favorite color trends. "I love bright colors for spring, and tangerine is the perfect pop,” Zias says. She expertly pairs this bold tangerine slip dress (note the subtle snakeskin print) with her cropped cardigan. "I’m currently living in cardigans because they are so cute but also very functional,” she adds. Even when it’s no longer cool out, throwing a cardigan over your shoulders or around your waist is a great way to make an outfit feel very cool and unique.
In case you missed it, those cool sneakers Zias is wearing with this look are—you guessed it—a pale yellow shade. The kicks are just further proof these two hues really do pair so well together.
