The Biggest Lingerie Trends to Try This Summer
Summer is right around the corner, and while you might be busy gathering the coolest necessities for an ideal seasonal wardrobe, there's one thing we have a feeling you might be skipping over. Lingerie might not be something you immediately consider seasonal, but according to Sandra Rose, Vice President, Merchandising and Brand; Helene Morris, the founder and designer of Lonely; and Monica Mitro, the EVP of public relations for Victoria's Secret, it definitely is. They are firm believers in swapping out lingerie based on the season just as you would the bulk of your wardrobe, and they are here to tell us exactly how to do it in 2019.
Ahead Lewis, Morris, and Mitro dive deep into the summer lingerie trends that are blowing up. In typical lingerie fashion, some of the trends you'll see here will be new and exciting, while others are simply practical. According to the experts at hand, both are important and necessary for building out the most festive and functional summer lingerie wardrobe possible.
Exaggerated Florals
"We’ve been seeing a lot of fresh floral patterns for summer. Some vendors opted for bold optic prints, like our silk PJ set from Violet and Wren, while others had a softer more bohemian approach, like the Melina Bra from Underprotection. A beautiful allover floral print from Hanky Panky is a great middle ground and a great update for the collection." — Rose
Unfussy Lace
"Spring/Summer 2019 has been all about color! We’re so happy to see vendors choosing happy palettes that have a soft beauty and really get you into the spring mood. We went after this look in our Journelle collection with a beautiful lavender cross-dyed lace in our classic Anais and the eye-popping flamingo pink in our Romy. Our other favorites of the season are a two-tone mesh stunner from Emerging Designer Alum, Taryn Winters and a fiery orange demi bra from Simone Perele that has great shoulder strap detail! Keep an eye out for some amazing neons coming this summer!" — Rose
Beyond the Bride
"We’re so fortunate to be the go-to location for brides when they start preparing for their special day. From what we’ve seen this spring, it’s clear that brides aren’t just looking for white lingerie anymore. Intimates is a great way to incorporate your "something blue” and icy pastel blues have been really popular, like the Coucou Teddy in divine blue from Only Hearts, or the amazing Joia Plunge from British designer Studio Pia. Blush is also a popular go-to for its elegance and femininity. Brides love our charlotte sets in blush or our new exclusive garters in partnership with local NYC designer Larissa Kate. For the bride who doesn’t want to veer too far from the path, our Anais in powder is a popular option it has an amazing iridescent yarn woven in that gives the perfect glimpse of shimmer to make it really special." — Rose
Strapless Refresh
"We’d be remiss not to mention how important strapless bras are in the spring/summer season. This year is no different, with women coming in daily to find their perfect fit. We’ve added some new styles to our assortment to try and meet these needs, and standouts have been the Natori Underneath with a buttery soft hand feel and great versatility from adjustable optional straps. I also personally love the Panache Porcelain Elan molded strapless because it provides really amazing support for fuller, larger cups. For optimum comfort though, nothing beats a great bandeau, and we’re launching one from Cosabella a perfect answer to all the seasons one-shoulder and off the shoulder tops!" — Rose
Cheeky Briefs
"Cheeky briefs are presently some of our best-selling styles, and my favorite has to be our Patti French Brief in Teal. The lace border edge is so beautiful and delicate, and the light coverage is perfect for hot summer days." — Morris
All the Frills
"Frills are always fun for summer, and we’ve brought them into our lingerie detailing this season with a frill-bordered bra. The mesh frill is beautifully soft, so it doesn’t compromise your comfort. It comes in powder blue and cactus green." — Morris
Bra Tops
"Bra tops worn as outerwear are this summer’s hottest trend. The Very Sexy Bustier is the number one hottest lingerie must-have item this summer. This item is a top essential for summer street style that every fashion It girl will be wearing." — Mitro
Logo Mania
"We are seeing a lot of love for Victoria’s Secret logos. The T-shirt bra with logo straps is very popular right now, especially in bright summer colors." — Mitro
Cool Colors
"New to the T-shirt collection is the Unicorn bra with the rainbow color back strap." — Mitro
Cotton
"Cotton has never been cooler for summer. Our new cotton panty is both sexy and comfortable now in softer, lighter stretch cotton fabric. Plus, it has a bold logo waistband that gives it a touch of edge that customers are loving." — Mitro
